Michigan Thursday: Big Ten Week 2 Preview

It's so hard to predict games in Week 1, when you have no idea what each team has.   As my kids says, I'm here for my flowers for predicting the Fresno State upset over Purdue.   Ok, it was a lucky guess.  Let's see how my lucky guesses continue in Week 2.

Friday Night Games:

Indiana St. @ Indiana (NL): I thought IU played well against a talented OSU team on Saturday.  I expect they will overtake Larry Bird who has to be in his 70's now.   IU 24 Larry Bird 15

Illinois @ Kansas (-3): Hold up, this is a really good game.  Illinois struggled with Toledo in Week 1 and Kansas now has Hunter Dickinson.  Actually, KU blew out Missouri State.  Not sure why I keep putting basketball references into these game previews.  Is KU good, is Hunter worth $2M a year?  I need answers people!  KU 28 Illinois 24

Saturday:

Youngstown State @ Ohio State (NL): I think Ohio State will look a lot better this weekend.  OSU 42 YSU 10

Delaware @ Penn State (NL): Vegas is not looking for a lot of action on Big Ten games this weekend.  This is your Peacock game of the week!  Penn State 51 Delaware 7

Nebraska @ Colorado (-3): Anyone heard of Coach Prime? This is his first game at home after having the biggest upset of week 1.  Nebraska proved that no matter who the head coach is, they can't break the close game curse with a late turnover. Colorado defense has trouble stopping the run which will make this game uncomfortably close.   Coach Prime 31 Nebraska 30

Purdue @ Virgina Tech (-3):  Enter Sandman wins the day.  VT 19 Purdue 12

Iowa (-3.5) @ Iowa State: Both teams are 1-0 and this is the classic week 2 match-up.  Cade started red hot with 2 TD's passes and then seemed to cool off a bit.   This is usually a slug fest.   Iowa 14 ISU 13

Richmond @ MSU (NL): The spiders lost in week 1 and will have trouble with Tuck in East Lansing.  MSU 30 Richmond 10

UTEP (-1.5) @ Northwestern: The minors are favored against NW who is really trying to use AJ Henning the best way they can.  I think they find a way to score a few points and get a W.  NW 10 UTEP 6

Wisconsin (-6) @ Washington State: This is an interesting game and Wisconsin is going on the road to face a PAC 12 opponent.  I know Badgers want to run a modern offense but that quickly became a power run game in Week 1.  Wisconsin 28 WSU 17

Charlotte @ Maryland (-24.5): This is the NBC night game against Texas - Alabama.  Take Biff and the points!  Maryland 34 Charlotte 20

Eastern Michigan @ Minnesota (-20.5): I like the Golden Gophers over a MAC team even though EMU is an up-and-coming program.  Minnesota 38 EMU 24

Temple @ Rutgers (-9): Aren't these the same team?  Rutgers at home has an advantage Rutgers 21 Temple 16

  • Josh Metellus just signed a 2-year extension with the Vikings for $13M.  Congrats Josh!
  • Michigan @ Nebraska is a Noon game on Fox
  • ECU - Michigan was Peacock's highest rated game
  • Moore and Johnson are practicing and getting better each day per Coach Clink
  • Anyone else concerned about the Lions game tonight?  The old Lions would get embarrassed in this spot.  Is this a new day for the Detroit Lions?

Michigan Thursday: 2 Injuries That's Causing Concern

Jimmy did another Spring Practice press conference yesterday and to prove he is turning over a new leaf, talked about injuries and even gave us some details.

Two guys – Donovan Peoples-Jones, Mike Dwumfour – looks like they have more serious injuries than we previously thought,” Harbaugh said. “Both have not participated very much in any practice or all winter. Concern is, and the worry really, is that it’s more serious. That they can get back to their previous form and level.”

“They could (miss time this fall),” Harbaugh said. “I’ve always been the kind of coach, but also when I played, I put a lot of stock on what a player – how their body feels, how they respond. That’s the feedback. All indications we’re getting is they can’t really do much at all.”

“Donovan’s has been a soft-tissue injury, a groin injury,” Harbaugh said. “Michael, he had a torn plantar fascia right before the bowl game. Just start to worry when injuries start to linger longer than previously thought. Longer than the time it usually takes. I think nobody knows their body better than the actual athlete.”

As you know, that is a ton of detail for Jimmy to give during a press conference.   Mike even gave us some more detail on Social Media yesterday.

I did not tear my planta fascia in the bowl game I tore it against Maryland and still played did not miss any games I don’t know where this false information is coming from. Rehab is going great I will be back healthy very soon in Jesus name!!

If these injuries don't heal prior to the season, that is trouble for the Wolverines.  DP-J is Michigan's top WR target even thought there is plenty of depth at the position.

Mike will have a major role this year on a defensive line which needs as much depth as they can get.   I really don't care who starts on the D-Line as Michigan in the past rotates many players during the game.   I expect Shaun Nua will continue that strategy as he takes over for Greg Mattison.

The Wolverines had many more injuries that weren't publicly known during that end of the year exhibition in Georgia.

Michigan Thursday: Is The Mighty Quinn Back at Practice?

Quinn Nordin is famous for two reasons, he was the top kicker in the 2016 class and Jimmy slept over at his house during his recruitment.

Kenny Allen was one of the most accurate kickers in Michigan history last year, this season he has had considerable trouble finding the middle of the up rights.  Jimmy, has said he doesn't like putting all the kicking duties on one person (kick offs, punts and field goals) and all that stress might be effecting his accuracy.

The latest news on this weeks kicking news is that Quinn is back from an injury and participating in practice.  “We’ve been working extremely hard at it. ... Unfortunately, we missed three kicks in the ball game last week. We have confidence in our guys, yet we want to see that competition in practice. I feel if we make them in practice, we’ll be able to make them in a game. Guys are battling this week.”
And doing well, including freshman Quinn Nordin. Nordin had been working through an injury, but he returned to the competition this week.
“Quinn made both his kicks yesterday, in fact, and had a really good day yesterday. Kenny Allen made all his kicks; Ryan Tice made all his kicks and Quinn made all his kicks," Harbaugh said. "It will rage on again today.”

  • There is an active proposal in front of the NCAA for two early signing periods for football recruits in June and December.   A player would have 3 days to sign an LOI during each period.   I like the idea and think there should have been at least one early signing period for football.   One issue is, if the coach gets fired and a new staff comes in that kid is stuck.   I would like to see some type of easy process where a player could void his LOI in those situations
.
  • The early reports from Grant Newsome's surgery is positive and it seems he will play again.   Hopefully as soon as next season.

  • There is also some buzz that Nebraska maybe interested in leaving the Big Ten to return to the Big 12.  They feel that their brand hasn't grown in the Big Ten.  I agree, it sure hasn't.  The issue is you haven't been winning football games and your basketball team is usually at the bottom of the conference.   If you want to do a trade for Oklahoma straight up, I think the Big Ten would take that all day long.    Can we trade Penn State for Texas?    We might even throw in Rutgers.

Big Ten Games Of The Week:

What a terrible match up week for the Big Ten.   Here are a couple of games that are slightly interesting.

BYU at MSU:  Are the beat up Spartans ready to fold up camp?  BYU can score points but doesn't play a lot of defense.   MSU is a 6 point favorite.   MSU 28 BYU 17

Iowa at Minnesota:  Minnesota plays well at home and Iowa has struggled lately.   This is almost an even game with Iowa -1.   Iowa has to be better then this right?  Iowa 17 Minnesota 14

Maryland at PSU:  Do we really know if Maryland is good this year?  Penn State is a home day at PSU +1.5   Maryland 20 Penn State 18

Michigan Friday: Drake Johnson Updates

For Drake to take on a forklift and come away with some bumps and bruises is very lucky.   This would have been a terrible way for him to end a career after two ACL injuries.

  • Rock Star Jimmy was seen on stage before the Bruce Springsteen concert playing the drums last night.

  • Big Willie Henry can pretty much go anywhere in the NFL Draft.  The highest rating I have seen in 2nd Round but it's a very deep DL class and he could drop to the 4th or 5th as well.

  • Michigan in the top 5 for 2017 Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons CB Randall Haynie

  • Today is the first day of the evaluation period and Greg Mattison will be out to see Corey Malone-Hatcher.

  • Michigan made NJ OL Micah Clark's top 5, coming in #2 behind Rutgers.

Michigan Thursday: Drake Johnson Gets Injured in the Track and Field Building

maizeandgoblue.com
In an un-believable report it seems that Drake Johnson got hit by a forklift in the Track and Field building.   Sam Webb has confirmed that he was hurt and the details are coming in from internet, which of course are just rumors.  The internet is saying he was stretching with headphones on and the forklift was carrying a load.  The driver could not see Drake and ran in to him.  The extent of his injuries are not known.

I hope he is doing well as it sounds like he is in the hospital.   I'm sure we will get more details as they come available.

Jimmy at the Migos concert, I guess he was also on stage.

Breaking News: Blake Countess Out for the Year

Just when you thought the news couldn't get any worse, Mgoblog is reporting that Blake has torn ligaments in his knee and is out for the season.  Look for Raymon Taylor and Courtney Avery to fill in for Michigan's most talented corner.  Avery clearly struggled at corner on Saturday.

We haven't got any news on Lewan yet who couldn't make it back to the lockeroom without help after the game.

Michigan Friday: Shane at Pioneer and More Camp Injuries

If you want to get the glimpse of Michigan's future tonight or see how Shane Morris plays at the corner of Stadium and Main?  Head over to Hollway Field tonight to watch Shane Morris and Warren De La Salle take on Pioneer.   John Wrangler's kids also play for De La Salle.

The fall camp injuries are starting to pile up for the Wolverines.  We first learned that true freshman Chris Wormely was lost for the year with an ACL tear about a week ago, then DT Ondre Pipkins was taken to the hospital with a neck injury.   Ondre injury was not serious and is back at practice but we learn yesterday that two more freshman will be lost for the year.   First is true freshman LB Kaleb Ringer who has a knee injury and second is redshirt freshman OL Chris Bryant with a broken leg.   Kaleb had enrolled early and was expected to see some time on defense and probably on special teams.   He also had a knee issue his senior year in high school which could be related to this injury.  He will red shirt for sure.

Chris was expected to be a backup on the line this year and could have seen a ton of playing time.  This injury is a tough hit to an offensive line that  already had depth issues.   Expect to see a true freshman raise up the depth chart now.   Chris used his redshirt year last year and if he is lost for the year, expect him to file for a medical redshirt.

  • 2013 RB commit Deveon Smith goes off in his first game of the year.  He had 17 carries for 311 yards.  There is video available at this link.  (the defense wasn't very good).

Wolverine Wednesday: Wormley ACL

Every fall camp you are excited for football and worried about injuries.   Some famous camp injuries that stick with me are Troy Woolfolk and Drew Henson.    We hadn't heard too much about injuries outside of LB Poole who came to camp with an existing injury.   Then the news broke regarding freshman Chris Wormley who won't get a chance to play this year becuase he has torn his ACL in practice.

Chris had been mentioned as someone that could contribute right away and now will spend the year as a red shirt.   I don't know the impact this injury will have on the Wolverines 2012 defense, I just feel bad for a kid that probably hasn't taken his first class at Michigan yet and now has a major injury.  Let's hope he is a quick healer and will be back for next years fall camp.

  • This reporter thinks Bellomy might be a better option as the #2 QB ahead of Devin.  I'm not sure this is a 100% correct statement.  I believe the coaches think Bellomy would do a decent job if he had to be thrown into a game, which allows them to use Devin at WR.  A position that needs a game breaker.  If Denard goes down and Devin is healthy, I believe he takes all the QB snaps.

Wolverine Weekend: Iowa Running Backs Curse

Under RR, it seemed Michigan had a defensive back curse.  Players were getting hurt in practice, during games, going to the NFL before they were ready, transferring or not even making it to campus.   What could go wrong in the defensive backfield depth did and Michigan had to play freshman and even converted a running back and a wide receiver.

An Mgoblog user gave us this image to remember all the fallen DB's:
never-forget-updated

A similar situation happened at Purdue where many of their offensive weapons continue to go down with ACL's injuries.  Even the basketball team was effected with the multiple ACL injuries to Robbie Hummel.  This ACL curse caused someone at Purdue to create "Perry" a new mascot for the Boilermakers.   I prefer Perry to that big drum or train whistle.
perrycolor

Now there is another curse in the Big Ten and this time it's pointed at the Iowa Hawkeyes running backs.  The best way to phrase this is from a recent ESPN articleIowa's leading rusher from 2011, Marcus Coker, transferred in the offseason to Stony Brook and his backup, Mika'il McCall, also left the program this winter. Potential successor Jordan Canzeri tore his ACL in March and is out for the season.

Iowa's top RB recruit Greg Garmon who is expected to be on campus this week to start summer conditioning to take over the RB role next season, was just arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and driving without a registration.  Time for a new mascot image!

Michigan Monday: Bad Weekend for the Big Ten and The State's Top Teams

Lets first look at the Big Ten.

2 out of their top 3 top teams lost games, both teams were undefeated.   MSU for the second straight year has seemed to have taken Denard Robinson out of the Heisman race and Illinois lost to OSU when they completed 1 pass.  Let me say that again, Ohio State completed 1 pass and Illinois couldn't stop the run all day.

Penn State barley beat a poor Purdue team.

Wisconsin looked like they played a high school team in Indiana.

Northwestern and Iowa played a decent game.

MSU got a win over their instate rival Wolverines but had a number of personal foul penalties (5) and we will see if the Big Ten will suspended Will Gholston for his punch and late hit, twisting of Denard Robinson's face mask (2 personal fouls).   If you are wondering, neither of those plays are "playing hard or playing emotional" those are clear examples of playing dirty.  Gholston should be suspended at least for the Wisconsin game and should have been thrown out of the Michigan game.

How a bad weekend got worse:

  • Tigers get blown out in Game 6
  • The Lions lose to Jim Harbaugh and 49'ers in a close game.
Look at this weeks games:

Illinois at Purdue:  Look for a Zook hangover from the OSU game

Wisconsin at MSU:  ESPN Gameday in East Lansing for a prime time game.  Then Sparty goes on the road to Nebraska.

Nebraska at Minnesota: = Bye week

Penn State at Northwestern:Watch out for the Wildcats here.  Persa can pick a team apart and PSU is having serious QB issues.

Indiana at Iowa:  Iowa easy.

Michigan and OSU have bye weeks.

I sure hope Michigan gets some good news on the recruiting trail because it could be a long week of updates on the health of Troy and Denard.   If you feeling down about Sparty, they could easily lose their next two games.

Wolverine Weekend Update: The Numbers Game

The new Michigan Media guide just came out and incoming freshman have numbers and there are a few guys missing from the roster.  The missing guys make are the ones making the most news:
#1 Hot Topic is Kellen Jones:  Is/was an incoming freshman that isn't on the roster.  He was a 4 star LB to Scouts and 3 Stars to Rivals in the 2011 class.  There are plenty of message board rumors flying around, which we hope are not true.  Kellen was very high on the Wolverines and is considered a nice LB prospect.  He was very excited to be a Wolverine.

#2 Christian Pace: Was a 2010 class center recruit from Avon Lakes, Ohio.  He red shirted last year due to Molk and a number of rumored injuries.  I expect that his injuries continue to be a major issue and he needs to take this year off or his football career might be in jeopardy. (again just speculation)

5th Year Guys Not on the Roster:  (all were expected)  Michael Williams, John Ferrara, Zac Ciullo, and Kevin Leach.   Good luck gentlemen!

Breaking News: Another Michigan Transfer

I guess you know which teammates are "All in for Michigan" this year and which are not.  I don't understand young guys wanting to jump ship when they are in the first few years of eligibility.  Michigan lost a young safety last week and this week it's another defensive player.

DE Anthony LaLota has decided to leave the Michigan program.  Anthony was a highly recruited guy out of NJ.  He was very raw coming out of high school (and thin like 250 lbs) but had a high upside and a big frame to earn his 4 star status.  Another example of guys like that are Roh and Lewan.  So far Anthony has not seen the field and I think he is way too young to put the 'bust" tag on him, but he watched his classmates get playing time while he is on the sideline.

I guess that was just too much for him and he has decided to leave.  Which is too bad for the young man.  He is up to 270 pounds and you never know when your number is going to be called as a redshirt freshman.   These young man seem to be getting some bad advice and looking for short term gains and not the long term effect for transferring.  Not everyone is successful like Ryan Mallet after they leave Michigan, in fact most aren't successful at all (regarding football).

This transfer won't effect this years team but it's just a shame to see him throw away his free Michigan degree and chance to play in a year or two.

  • LB Mike Jones has a broken leg which will require surgery.

  • Brandon Herron sprained his ankle and is listed as day-to-day. JB Fitzgerald, Mark Moundros, Kenny Demens, and Kevin Leach all will see action at LB.

Michigan's Mash Report: ND Game

OUT (0% PLAY)
Ferrara, John   Hand
Johnson, Carvin   Knee
Van Slyke, Jared   Clavicle
Toussaint, Fitzgerald   Knee
Woolfolk, Troy   Ankle

DOUBTFUL (25% PLAY)
Hemingway, Junior   Hamstring

PROBABLE (75% PLAY)
Roundtree, Roy

No real surprises.  I didn't know about John's hand but he probably wasn't going to play anyway.   Fitz and Junior seem to been injured pretty much their entire career at Michigan (and yes I realize it's only been a year for Fitz).  Having Roundtree on offense will help move the ball down field against ND if it becomes a shoot out which many experts are predicting.

Wolverine Wednesday Update: Divisions and Team Report

First to team news:

  • Michael Shaw, RB is eligible to play this fall.
  • Fitz Toussaint is probably not going to play on Saturday.

Big Ten News:

It seems the 2011 Big Ten divisions will be reveled tonight at 7:00PM on the Big Ten Network.  The reports are that Michigan and OSU are in separate divisions but might stay the last game of the year.   That would mean Michigan and Nebraska would headline one division and OSU and PSU the other.

Multiple sources told ESPN.com that the two divisions in the Big Ten will look like:
• Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern and Minnesota.
• And Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana and Illinois.

What this mean for Michigan?  They would play Nebraska, Iowa, MSU and OSU every year and maybe miss PSU and Wisconsin.   It also means that Ohio State has a pretty easy road each year to the Michigan game with only Penn State and Wisconsin the only "tough" teams in their division.

Woolfolk Injured: Time to Panic

Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.

As we know, Michigan's depth at cornerback is very thin with players that have experience.  As Michigan fans, we felt ok losing Warren to the NFL with senior Troy Woolfolk at one corner and JT Floyd or JT Turner at the other.

Flash forward to August 17th.  JT Turner left the team after the first day of practice and now senior cornerback (son of Michigan legend Butch)Troy Woolfolk has injured himself during practice today.  He is currently at the hospital and from the initial reports it seems to be a dislocated ankle, which would put him out for the year.

I'm not sure what the universe has against Michigan defensive backs but we get it, you win.   Universe you are the champ, now please move on to another team.

Here is the list I put together after Turner left:

Michigan DB's lost in the last year:

Demar Dorsey = Never enrolled admission issues
Adrian Witty = Never enrolled admission issues now at Cincinnati
Justin Turner = Transfer due to inability to break into the starting lineup
Boubacar Cissoko = Transferred to a different type of Big House
Donovan Warren = NFL

This was the one player on defense, Michigan couldn't lose and now it looks like they have.  For sure we will see freshman playing.  Hello, Cullen Christian.  Hello, Courtney Avery welcome to September 4th.

Troy can redshirt if he is for sure lost for the year.

Update from Butch (Troy's dad):  freep link
“I’m only listening to what the coaches told me, but they said it happened during a tackle. His foot got stuck in the turf and his ankle just turned,” Butch Woolfolk said from Sugar Land, Texas, where he lives and where Troy grew up. “It was dislocated and when they put it back in the socket, they did an X-ray and found out about the ligament (damage) and the bone broke.”

As for surgery, that’s a decision that may be days away.

“They don’t know yet, they’ll wait until the swelling goes down,” said Butch, a former U-M tailback, who plans to come to Michigan as soon as he can.

“I’ve spoken to him,” Butch said, adding that Troy is on medicine to mask the leg pain but is emotionally devastated. “Yeah, he’s pretty crushed. The strange thing is he decided not to work (at a job) in the off-season so he could just workout, and he said he’s in the best shape of his life. He called me everyday after practice and said he was at the top of his game. And I heard the same thing from the coaches. He was ready.”

Michigan Football Friday: NFL is Calling?

Donovan Warren Michigan's best CB is considering leaving early for the NFL draft. The true junior had 4 interceptions this year and opposing QB's would routinely throw the ball away from the talent junior. He has filed paperwork with the NFL to see where he might be drafted. At the annual Michigan Football Bust last night he had this to say:

"I'm definitely, I'd have to say heavily, I like the chances of me coming out," Warren said at Michigan's annual football bust.

Warren said he planned to make a decision “within 2 weeks or so,” likely before the advisory committee reports back on his draft status.

Some scouts project Warren as a middle round draft selection and Mel Kiper has him rated as the #2 Junior Cornerback. He also has been playing with a banged up ankle that he feels he can get fixed in the off season.

BHB perspective: If Warren is a first or high second round draft pick, I would say he should go to the Draft. If he is 3rd round or below he should stay at Michigan: get 100% healthy, and work on his technique and speed. He has a former NFL DC in Greg Robinson that can help him prepare and an NFL worthy Stretch and Conditioning coach. Those two things will only help will be a better NFL caliber CB in another year. DW has also flipped on this decision twice already saying he would look into the NFL in November and then after the OSU game saying he was staying.

More good news out of the Wolverine Camp: Mgoblog is reporting that Michigan running back, Freshman Vincent Smith blew out his ACL during the Ohio State game and will miss spring practice. Vincent is expected to compete with Mike Shaw for the starting running back position next year. Michigan loses two seniors Brandon Minor and Carlos Brown at that position.

OSU Week News and Notes Day 4

  • One person I left off the visitors list for OSU is "Big Tex" Jatashun Beachum. He is nearly 300 pounds and plays Defensive Tackle and QB. The word on the street is, he is interested in Michigan because RR said they would allow him to play to QB on short yardage situations. He has offers from just about every major program but decided to give his verbal to Arkansas. Which didn't last long when the Wolverines came calling and now he says he is deciding between Michigan and the Razorbacks.

  • Very Bad News for the Michigan Offense: Brandon Minor is doubtful for Saturday's Ohio State game. His ankle is healed but his shoulder is giving him a lot of problems. He has not practiced this week.

  • Mgoblog is now reporting the 2008 work out logs due exist and were found after the audit and have been turned into the University investigators and the NCAA. RR also said yesterday that as soon as he learned about the problem it was fixed right away.

  • Per the Detroit News and RR's agent: "I do know that Rich and Mary Sue spoke on Monday and Mary Sue said, 'Hey, I'm behind you 100 percent,'" said Rodriguez's agent, Mike Brown said. Brown said Rodriguez and Coleman met to discuss a university audit that showed the football program did not submit required logs that reveal how much time players spent involved with the sport last season. Brown also said Rodriguez and his wife, Rita, are very happy in Ann Arbor. "They plan on being (at Michigan) a long, long time," Brown said.

  • A Michigan Judge has "stalled" the Sale of the Silverdome. A developer in Bloomfield Hills said it had a deal with Pontiac is 2008 for $17 Million for the Silverdome. Quick Question? Why the hell are you blocking a deal where you over paid by $16.5 Million? If you want the place offer $1M and it's yours!

Michigan Mash Report: Week 11

OUT
C David Molk, knee

PROBABLE (75 percent chance of playing)
WR Martavious Odoms, knee
DT Greg Banks, foot

Who are missing here are Brandon Minor with shoulder and ankle and Junior Hemingway with a Back problem.

Game captains for Wisconsin: linebacker Stevie Brown, defensive end Brandon Graham, wide receiver Greg Mathews and punter Zoltan Mesko.

Michigan MASH Report

Out:
Molk
Odoms

Questionable (50%)
Greg Banks

Probable (75%)
Zac Johnson

The bad news here is Michigan's best slot WR is for sure out for the Purdue game. Odoms had a pretty good day against Purdue last year that included a punt return for a touchdown. Michigan will need Roy Roundtree and Kelvin Grady to set up big in the offense.

Game Captains: linebacker Stevie Brown, defensive end Tim North, left tackle Mark Ortmann and slot receiver Ricky Reyes.

Friday, October 30, 2009

Week 9 Michigan MASH Report & News and Notes

OUT
CB Zac Johnson, shoulder
C David Molk, knee (out for season)

PROBABLE (75 percent chance of playing)
WR Martavious Odoms, knee

This is a pretty good list for the Wolverines. No Warren,Hemingway, or Minor on the list. Odoms would be a loss, since he has stepped up as the top Slot WR. The game captains are: running back Kevin Grady, wide receiver Greg Mathews and guard Tim McAvoy.

News and Notes:

  • Witty still wants to be a Wolverine: Former teammate of Denard Robinson's Adrain Witty is still working hard to become academically eligible and join the Wolverines. His High School coach: “I stay in contact with Witty all the time and he’s excited about trying to get back up to Michigan,” former Deerfield Beach (Fla.) coach Art Taylor said. “And that’s someone that I think Michigan misses right now because Adrian can fly. He was the only kid that could beat Shoelace in a race.”

  • The Michigan Basketball Team is ranked #15 in both pre-season polls.
