Wolverine Wednesday: Is Seeing Red

Brady Hoke doesn't wear red, even when he coached at a school whose primary colors were red.  He went with Black.  There is a picture floating around where one of the coaches shirts he wore had some red piping on it, but that's it.

So why did Brady really want a Red Shirt for his star QB?  Because it meant another year and the ability to groom his two young QB's coming into the program.   Yes, Devin Gardner got his Red Shirt from his freshman year, which erases a mistake by Rich Rod.   I wish we could try to get a red shirt for Rich Rod's mistake with Big Will.

This is great news for the next two years for our program.  Michigan now has an experienced QB that has gotten playing experience over the past three years and now there is a high probability he will be the starter for the next two years.   I now like our chances for the next two years in the Big Ten with a young but talented offensive line, a future NFL TE, the #1 rated RB in HS coming in and a QB with a good amount of game experience.

For all accounts Michigan had a poor 2012 season, but with Lewan staying, a top 5 recruiting class, and now Devin getting his redshirt.   They are winning the off season.

  • Speaking of Red:  OSU did Michigan a favor last night by upsetting IU at home on senior night.   Now if Michigan wins out they can get a share of the Big Ten Title.   That quest starts tonight at Purdue and finishes this weekend against Indiana at home.

  • Remember the name Se'Von Pittman?  He was a highly rated DE that wanted to commit to Michigan but the Wolverines were full at the DE position.   He committed to MSU and then OSU hired Urban Meyer and he flipped to OSU.  Reports are he is leaving Ohio State.

  • 2014 QB Chance Stewart de-commits from Wisconsin.  Chance is 6'6 205 Pro Style QB, he is rated 4 stars by Rivals.  He committed to Wisconsin last August.  I don't expect Michigan will have any interest at this point.

  • 2014 OT Tommy Doles from Grand Rapids is planning to be on campus this weekend for the IU game.  He has been on campus a couple of times and he has high interest in the Wolverines.   Commit watch in effect.

  • 2014 teammates from Paramus, New Jersey Jabrill Peppers and Juwan Bushell-Beatty are planning a visit to Ann Arbor.  Jabrill is a 5 star CB and ranked #2 player in the country by Rivals.  Bushell-Beatty is a 6'5 300 pound OT.
