Michigan Thursday: Talks Transfers

When there is news about transfers and Michigan, it's usually a one way trip out of Ann Arbor.   Michigan Football is not known at all for taking transfers or JUCO kids.   Michigan's academic requirements make it very difficult for players to transfer to Michigan.

Both major programs at Michigan are more open to transfers this year because of immediate needs.   The football team has a bunch of trouble on the offensive line and the basketball team had 4 players  leave for the NBA/graduate and another one transfer.

So now the door is open to Ann Arbor to some key transfers:

NoGo:

Michigan missed out on a key 5th year transfer when Chad Lindsey picked the Buckeyes over the Wolverines and his former OC.

Tulsa forward transfer Cole Huff was very interested in Michigan before Mitch headed to the NBA.  Then Mitch left and it seemed Cole would visit and could be offered.   That never happened and reports were mixed if Cole dropped Michigan or vice versa.

With the door open,  Michigan still has trouble getting players in.

Then two pieces of news hit yesterday that could be interesting.

#1 Eron Harris a shooting guard transfer from WVU who averaged 17 points a game last season is looking for a new home and has Michigan in his top 3 with Purdue and Michigan State.   This kid can play and would be a great addition to the Wolverines, even though he would have to sit out a year.   I think the key to Eron considering Michigan is whether Caris is planning to go to the NBA after next season.   Which is highly likely if he has a very good year.

#2 Five star RB Ty Isaac is transferring from USC.   Do you remember this recruitment?  He visited Ann Arbor a number of times and had Michigan #1 for what seemed like a year.  He played his HS ball in Illinois and always said he wanted to stay closer to home.   He took a trip to USC, got caught up in USC lifestyle and picked them.    Now after his freshman year he is looking to transfer and go to a school closer to home.  It seems there might be some health or other issues with his mother.

First question is:  Does Michigan want him?  Don't know but he had 40 carries last year with a 5.9 average with 2 TD's.    So yes, I would like him in the Maize and Blue.   He would have to sit out a year (might be able to get a waiver) and would have 3 years left.

The other question is, how close to home does he have to be?  Yes, Ann Arbor is closer then LA but is ND or Illinois a better fit if he has to be real close to home?

So here we go ahead, with two high profile transfer candidates.  Do they have a chance to land in A2, you bet!  But I wouldn't hold my breath.
