Michigan Tuesday: Today We Will Know Hoke's Fate

By now you have heard that Jim Hackett will be meeting with Brady Hoke at 2:00 and hour before the team meeting.  Update: Now hearing the meeting is at noon.   At 12:00 there are 3 things that can happen:

1) Brady resigns with a compensation package
2) Brady will be fired with a comp package
3) Brady will be notified that he is staying on for another year

1 and 2 are the most probable options after this disaster of a year.  Nothing has seemed to have gone right on or off the field for this program.  I would be remiss if I didn't mention there are a few people saying that Brady will be back, as Jim sees the positive things like graduation rates Brady has improved while in role.   I think that is highly un-likely but Hackett is a wild card at this point and were not sure what he is or isn't doing.    I personally don't like it that we know there is a meeting, as it reminds me of how Brandon totally botched the RR firing that took two days and two meetings after the media had already reported that Rich had been fired.

The one thing I don't understand is how the Michigan coaching staff is out on the road recruiting.  What purpose does that make?  If they have or haven't been called back to Ann Arbor is clear sign what might happen in that 2:00 meeting.

  • Jimmy's interest in Michigan seems to be a he said/she said situation.  Some Michigan insiders are saying that Jimmy is interested and could come to back to Ann Arbor.  The "other" NFL jobs are in play but so is Michigan.   Being able to contact him now, when other NFL teams can't would seem to be an advantage for the Wolverines.  Don't forget it's unlikely that the 49'ers would just let him go to another team without a trade.   He could walk to Michigan.

  • Update:  Football Scoop is saying this: Multiple sources I spoke with told me Jim Harbaugh has already told Michigan that he is not a candidate.   Yes, this is a credible web site if your wondering.   If this is the case, it's better to know right now.  Also there are reports that there is a bunch of internal conflict about hiring Les Miles, which we always knew there would be.    Could this mean that Hoke is staying???  There are two people that I believe knows what Jimmy is going to do:  Jimmy and his dad Jack.  So I'm not sure I trust these sources on what he is going to do.

  • Jake Ryan was named to the All Big Ten Team, Funchess was named to the second team.

  • DJ Wilson is out a month with an injury, it seems Beilein and staff might look into a medical redshirt - which I believe would be very useful to him.   If your wondering why Andrew Dakich hasn't played this year, it's because they are redshirting him which would allow him to transfer for a 5th year after he graduates from Michigan.   He is currently a sophomore in eligibility.

  • I know the news this afternoon will dominate the headlines and probably your mind, but don't forget Michigan hosts Syracuse in the Big 10/ACC Challenge tonight.

Remember what you say has an effect on all of us... warning us that Hoke might stay is equivalent (or worse) then in 1939 (Halloween) the martain invasion" was broadcasted on the radio. A few people committed suicide to avoid these creatures. You could have the same effect saying Hoke is coming back... myself, a retired builder, would surely build a three story house, just to have the pleasure of jumping out the third floor window, if Hoke is back (like Arnold).

A decade ago the Michigan job was a premier landing spot for great coaches in NCAAF. Back then, there was talk about what coach would not want the job - the list was likely very short. Those days were long ago, and feel even further away than that. My worry was always whether top-tier candidates would want to run the risk of coming into A2 to deal with a "rebuilding project" in a university athletic culture that is a proven dysfunctional tire-fire when it comes to its football program. These fears might cause me to go in on the contruction with Scott on his three-story house so I can jump out of it as well.

I have no doubt that Brady Hoke is a well intentioned guy. I also beleive nobody is more disturbed by the continued slide of the Michigan football program under his watch than he is. All that being said, the problem is he is in over his head as a head football coach at a big time program. Nice guy, bad coach. As a life long Michigan fan I can't take this mediocrity any more. Good luck Brady, I hope you take your buy out money and move on to another coaching job if you like or retire to Florida or what ever makes you happy. No disrespect intended but as the old saying goes, "you don't have to go home but you can't stay here..."

Simple question, has Les Miles ever been OFFERED the Michigan job in the past? I know of the conversations that have happened in the past with sail boat bill and brandon, but have heard around the interweb that Miles has said many times that he would take the job if he was offered the job.

Never offered the job. Never will be offered the job. Apparently he banged Moeller's wife or something. Just another example of Michigan getting in the way of Michigan...

OK, he's gone.....

Now things will REALLY start to get "interesting".....

The positive side of things is that any coach coming here will inherit a team that is in pretty good shape talent-wise for the next 2 years (especially on defense).

Morris will be an immediate upgrade at QB. NOBODY could be worse than "Mr. 1 read then look at the pass rush".

RB (if Drake recovers again) will be in better shape with Isaac & Johnson (supported by the other 2 plow-horses).

We NEED a game breaking WR. I hope Funchess goes pro. He's NOT a #1 WR.

The OLine did improve in run blocking as the year went on. Nobody can deny that fact.

It's going to be interesting to see who we get that's for sure.....

"In a stunning coincidence, Hoke's ouster comes on the same day that it was announced that his predecessor in Ann Arbor, Rich Rodriguez, was announced as the Pac-12 coach of the year"

That's kind of ironic.....

Oh, just thinking out loud....what if we hired Pat Narduzzi & kept Nussmeier on?

Scott K said...

didn't you hate Nuss all year? now talking about keeping him on?

I'm not sure the o line got any better, I just think Johnson actually knew how to attack a hole and blow through it. Smith and Green ran into the asses of more O-linemen than they ran into holes in the line.

I hope... Hope, HOPE... The new HC has already agreed to take the job and the details are being ironed out... to be announced by the end of this week... I realize that's asking a lot, but if this search goes on for more than days, the media will make it look like no one wants the job... which only makes things look worse... Lets not forget kirk herpies prematurely announcing Les Miles has agreed to be the next coach of the Wolverines, prompting LSU to up his salary.... uhg! Jim Hatchet, or I mean Hackett... Please make this search short and sweet.

Coach is a first class guy who represented the University with dignity and honesty. I know in sports it's about wins and losses, but in college sports there are young men going out into the world who will never play football again. If I had a superstar football player for a son and he wanted to play for Coach Hoke that would be great with me. I remember Coach Carr retired and all the happy fans were dancing because he only won 1 national championship and we deserved more? Today is a sad day a good man lost his dream job. I hope they find a coach that embodies the same qualities of Brady Hoke.

No disagreement there, Brady is clearly a class guy who cares for his players.
That being said, kids don't come to Michigan to be the laughing stock of the Big 10. Brady was clearly over his head and frustrated with his inability to compete on the Big 10 stage...

I hope the next coach is a quality individual, like Brady, but one who has the tools to get Michigan Football back to the top of the Big 10 and the national stage.

Unfortunately, the indication is that this search will NOT end soon... Just watch the media make this look like a damn circus.... a week from today they'll be making this look like NO ONE wants the job.
