Michigan Thursday: Update on Instate Desmond Fitzpatrick's Recruitment

Desmond Fitzpatrick is an instate 4 star WR that committed to Louisville early in his recruitment.    He is 6'2 and 180 pounds and will be transferring from Farmington High to Waterford Matt High this fall.  His father gave an interview to the Courier-Journal yesterday.

"Dez is 100 percent Louisville right now," his father, Greg Fitzpatrick, said in phone interview Wednesday. "I'd be hard-pressed to see him going to another school. Desmond seems to have his mind made up."

Doesn't sound good for the Wolverines who have a big need at the WR position.   Jimmy and staff offered Des this past February.

Sounds like he is pretty solid to Louisville but Michigan might still have a chance:

"Everyone knows Desmond grew up a Michigan fan, and a lot of kids who live in the state, especially a lot of the top kids, tend to stay home," Greg Fitzpatrick said. "Coach Harbaugh is a great coach - everyone knows that – so I think a lot of assumptions were made, but at this point, I think Desmond sees himself at Louisville."

Fitzpatrick, whose favorite player as a kid was Wolverine receiving great Braylon Edwards, has visited Michigan five or six times since he received the offer, and the Wolverines were able to flip his former Farmington teammate David Reese from a U of L commitment this spring.

Home, Harbaugh and a very good chance to play early might be enough for Des to change his mind.  We will see.

  • For those tracking the Wolverine Shoe Wars - there continues to be rumors floating around Twitter that Michigan will announce a switch to Nike soon.   I will be surprised if Nike breaks the bank and pays Michigan around $15M a year in gear and dollar bills. (The highest Nike contract for a University is FSU around $5M a year)   The one thing we know for sure, they sure can afford it.

  • Michigan QB commit Brandon Peters got an invite to the Elite 11 Finals.  Congrats!

  • Michigan Baseball player Carmen Benedetti was named to the first team All American team.  First time in 27 years for a Wolverine to have that honor.
