Michigan Monday: Jalen Mayfield At The Best of The Midwest

This time of year is where we see nothing but camps for football prospects all across the country.   Since we won't see real games for 3 months, kids get a chance to impress the Recruiting Services in these camps.  Since the NCAA rules pretty much killed off the Sound Mind and Body camp in Detroit, it has been replaced by the Best in the Midwest camp at Grand Valley State.

From 24/7 it seems Michigan commit Jalen Mayfield was impressive:

Alpha Dog - 2018 four-star OT Jalen Mayfield (Grand Rapids, MI/Catholic Central)
It was a difficult choice between Mayfield and Belleville (MI) 2019 four-star OT Devontae Dobbs, but we're going with Mayfield due to a slight edge in consistency in a lengthy 1v1 morning session. 247Sports has ranked Mayfield as the top 2018 prospect in the state of Michigan, and the Army All-American showed elite balance and athleticism on the outside in dominating the vast majority of his reps. He will become even better as he continues to build weight (and he's already up to 273).

On a side note, Devontae Dobbs will become a very important recruit in the next class since he is so close to Ann Arbor.

  • GA 2018 DB Quindarious Monday attended the Best in the Midwest camp and also visited Ann Arbor on Sunday.   Wait? I think he should have visited today.

  • 4 Star 2018 TE from Illinois Luke Ford de-committed from Arkansas this past weekend and has opened up his recruitment.   Michigan has been in contact.

  • Former Michigan Basketball assistant LaVall Jordan is a candidate for the Butler head coaching job.  LaVall is currently the head coach at UW-Milwaukee.

  • Jimmy was at the USC Rising Stars camp on Sunday in LA.

  • Michigan offered 2018 4 star athlete/DB Bryan Addison on Sunday.  Bryan was at the USC Rising Stars camp.
