Wolverine Wednesday: What?

This one came out of the blue and I'm not sure I understand it.   The Land of 10 is reporting that graduate transfer Jeff George, Jr.  will transfer to Michigan.   Jeff will be eligible right away and has two years of eligibility left.   I assume Jeff Sr. and Jimmy are friends or have some type of relationship from their playing days.

The Land of 10 speculates that Jeff is joining the Wolverines as a walk-on and that would make sense.  Michigan has plenty of QB's on the depth chart and I don't see why they would use a scholarship on another transfer QB.   Jeff is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound pro-style quarterback who threw for 1,743 yards, 11 touchdowns and 15 interceptions for Illinois.  I believe he got his first game action against Michigan in 2016.

  • 2020 quarterback Tyler Van Dyke has been at Michigan's camp this week.

I don't understand it either. The only question that I can ask at this time is, why? Michigan has (at least) 7 QBs on the team, 4 scholarships (winners), 3 walk-ons and another 4 star QB on the way. I believe the young man has two years of eligibility left. I know that (St.) Jimmy believes in competition but this is crazy. I am sure that there will be a sizable portion of the Michigan fanbase that will say I trust the staff (and/or Coach Harbaugh). Couldn't Jim have just said, "Thanks, but no thanks?"
