Michigan Tuesday: Urban Meyer Retiring

It had been rumored since his suspension that Urban Meyer would leave Ohio State after the season.   Today at 2:00 he will officially announce his retirement in a press conference.

Was it his health?  We know he has a brain cyst that has been causing him some problems.   He has looked ill most of the season.

Was it an agreement from August?  Some have speculated that his reaction during his suspension press conference was clearly something more then 3 games.  Was this agreed upon during that meeting?

Was it his relationship with OSU?  Others have speculated that he felt he didn't do anything wrong and should of never been suspended.  This might be the result of a bad relationship with the OSU President.

Was it an undefeated record against Michigan?  I'm sure that played a bit into it.  He did announce like two weeks ago that he would be coaching next season.

Was Ryan Day getting other offers?  This for sure was a factor, OSU wanted Ryan to take over and for sure didn't want him jumping to another school.

Was it his QB situation?  Florida fans have seen this scenario play out before.  He retired from Florida for health reasons and was coaching Ohio State a year later.  Florida fans will tell you that he could predict the UF downturn and wanted out.   Haskins is expected to turn pro and be a top 10 pick in some of the drafts boards I have seen.

I don't know if we will ever know the full reasons.  We will probably learn something at 2:00 today but the real reason might not surface for a year or two when he takes over USC.  (total speculation of course)

  • Michigan Basketball continues its early Big Ten season tonight outside of Chicago against Northwestern.   Its another late tip at 9:00 EST on BTN.

I doubt its the QB situation. He has had 95% of his success with a dual threat qb, which Haskins is not, but Martell is.

My bet is that all the negative press he and osu rightfully received this season, along with the looming suspicion of what falls out of Zach Smith's next drunken twitter rant, piled on top of the season they had, where they rightfully should have lost 3 or 4 games... has the narcissist and chief of osu retiring to end with a dominant tenure.

That's just my 2 1/2 cents anyway.

Good post K.....i agree not the qb.... Urban has done everything and in his mind was disrespected... He has nothing to stay for .... NC, 82-9 - 7-0 vs Michigan.... just like Woody he is a great villian in this rivalry... better than tressal.... Now the pressure is really on Harbaugh... cannot lose at home against Day...

GuyTellTruth said...

It better not happen...but I think it will happen...Myers is one of the best college coach ever...he will be missed from competitive point of view

I would have liked to have beaten them when they were at their best...

I have said this in other places, but I think that it was a "forced" retirement. I think that OSU said to him that you can finish the year/season and then you will retire.

GuyTellTruth said...

Well said cormac... if he goes to Notre Dame and Michigan had the chance to scoop him up butthey didn't it would be a great tragedy.... Notre Dame is a Prestige University. I think it's more highly rated than Michigan if Notre Dame could hire Urban Meyer then why cant Michigan?...let mr. Conservative go...hirMyerser and win championships.

EzmoB said...

With Urban track record Notre Dame would never hire him. Michigan and Notre Dame would not bring Urban in.

I'm 99% sure Harbaugh is not going anywhere, I'm 99% sure Meyer is not going the ND, I'm 99% sure Meyer is not coming to UM.

So your telling me there’s a chance!

szanreno said...

Damn that was going to be my line. I love it. Ha!

At this point if I could pick who I’d never hear from again I am not sure who I’d pick between Alex/Abu or Urban Meyer??

Lol

EzmoB said...

Lmaoooooooo good one Tim!

GuyTellTruth said...

😆...that was funny little 👦

GuyTellTruth said...

However I do like that 1% chance that Urban might come to Michigan...

GuyTellTruth said...

At least it gives us 1% chance of winning the national title... go blue blue for life

GuyTellTruth said...

We need a running back coach and a wide receiver coach...Jim Harbaugh needs to let his son go and have him do something else with his life..he is not a good positional coach...plz only rational comments

Goblu said...

I love that Alex//Abu admits he’s Alex/Abu!
And by the way, no may do we want Meyer in AA. No sloppy seconds.

szanreno said...

You don't even want the guy to live there.

Scott K said...

Let Harbaugh go and hire urban meyer? Holy shit, I'll just pretend I never read that insanity.

GuyTellTruth said...

Urban Meyer is one of the best college football coach ever...and you find that insanity? Again you probably just watch Michigan football...?

Scott K said...

Actually not, meyer is no doubt a great coach... who has always ran a 'win at all costs' program. there is no fucking way michigan would ever hire a piece of shit with the baggage that guy has.....
i suppose you'd fire coach b and hire rick pitino too, cuz he wins championships.

GuyTellTruth said...

That is not what I am saying Scott...There are some consequence to every wrong action. It all depends on what that action is. Now, if a coach commits a serious violation then, I am against that. But, we will see where Urban Meyer's final destination is? In-addition, we will find out how serious his violation was?

GuyTellTruth said...

Listen I am all in for Harbaugh. I think his ethics, morals, and values surpasses most of the high profile coaches in NCAA. I am not questioning how great of a person he his. But, his play calling, and Idea or Image of what an offense supposed to look like is awful. He is by him-self keeping Michigan contending for a playoff spot with his elementary style offense for the past 4 years. If he is not going to simulate him-self into a modern style offense he is going get left far behind.

Again Blue for Life......

Lets look at this logically.... Harbaugh has been coach for four seasons and he took over a program in turmoil, decent recruiting and zero player development, a 10 year run of under performing.

Season 1 10-3 #11 in the country
Season 2 10-3 #10 in the country
Season 3 8-5
Season 4 10-2 #7 in the country

Season 2, we led all three games late in the 4th and lost all three by a combined 5 pts.

Yeah, we're all disappointed that the last game this season was a flop, but lets be real here.

As for urban, it doesn't take a rocket appliance to see what a shitbag he is. If you haven't figured that out by now, I don't think you will.

GuyTellTruth said...

Look my friend, it doesn't matter what his record is...I think he was brought in here to contend for a playoff spot and I think Harbaugh him-self believes that as well...but, needs to stop being a stubborn old man...and let the OC do their job. He needs to be facilitator. As for Meyer, yes his morals and values are in the same ball park as Harbaugh but, he will find job somewhere and win!!

szanreno said...

He's all in for Harbaugh one minute, wants him fired the next. Very scatter brained. Alex look up articles on how Meyer left Florida, if you're ok with those then that tells us volumes about you.

Scott K said...

it doesn't matter what his record is....... meyer's morals and values are in the same ballpark as Harbaugh's?

you're sniffing more coke than Chris Carter, my friend.

I'm out, nothing good can come from this exchange.

szanreno said...

You're right, go far away....

Sorry, I forgot to write "NOT"

To clear things up, Meyer "DOES NOT" have the same morals and values as Harbraugh.

Steve, I think you have have comprehension problem my friend. We are only talking about his morals and values here...I never said anything bad about Harbaugh's character. I think he is a good man. I don't like his offensive play calls...he is too conservative and cost us to get into playoff....because he is stubborn and runs an elementary school offense....enhance, if does re-invent his offense or let his OC do the playing calling, then Harbaugh will make some noise.

Blue for Life!!

szanreno said...

Alex how many Times have you said to fire Harbaugh? And,,,, you said above both his and Meyer's morals we on the same ballpark.

GuyTellTruth said...

Dude I never said they are same...i told u I forgot to write "not" on the previous post...

GuyTellTruth said...

I will still fire Harbaugh I know he will never change... and he will run the same boring offense.... until he adjust and runs a 21st century offense and stop running the 1965 style he is going nowhere

GuyTellTruth said...

I am out for tonight...going to Jimmy John's for a date....Blue for life..

szanreno said...

Did Alex not say above he was "all in for Harbaugh"? Now,,,,,, still fire him.
also I never got my answer on what criteria he used to get 7 or 8 wins this season. He keeps dodging the question. Which just intrigued me more.

EzmoB said...

Steve let it go...... Just let it go.

szanreno said...

Right,,,, just had to throw it out there one more time. Ha!

Scott K said...

going to jimmy johns for a date.... i guess mom is letting him use the car tonight. that pretty much explains it.
