Michigan Thursday: Welcome Back Walker

Michigan got two WR's in the transfer portal yesterday both of their last names denote movement.  Walker and a very old dance called the Charleston.  Now that I think about it, if you know how to dance the Charleston you might use a Walker.  Let's talk about Amorion Walker first.

Walker was that big WR Michigan was looking for but he kept bumping his head on Roman Wilson and CoJo on the depth chart.  So the coaches talked to him about moving to CB, which he did but got gassed by a walk-on WR during the Spring Game in 2023.  He did play some spot CB during the National Championship run but still looked like a fish out of water.   So he decided to hit the portal and sign with Ole Miss.  Then out of nowhere a huge echo could be heard across Schembechler Hall emanating from the WR room.   So he jumped back into the portal last week and is back in Ann Arbor for another run.  This time as a WR.   Michigan needs a big WR that knows the offense and could make a huge difference if he works on his WR skills this summer.

Next is Youngstown State WR CJ Charleston.  Who has been in college for 5 years already.  He was YSU's 3rd WR last season and has had some injury concerns coming off an achilles injury in 2022 and redshirted in 2019.  Last season, he had 33 catches, 504 receiving yards, and 4 TD's.  Out of HS he was that type of athlete you could put anywhere on the field including the basketball court or on the track.  This is an interesting signing that only seems to add depth to the WR room and break glass in case of emergency situation.  I'm not sure how you go from an FCS 3rd WR to starting for the National Champions, but with the above "echo" mentioned, the position needs bodies.  Best comp for me is AJ Henning.

  • Rumor is Michigan is looking to host some portal safeties soon.
  • Minnesota's QB transferred to Rutgers and now Gavin Wimsatt is in the portal.  Upgrade?

Youngstown St.'s 3rd WR?? Sherrone, you're starting to worry me. Is Sherrone turning into Brady Hoke 2.0? I guess we need to wait and see how things go. Hoke had his best season with R.R.'s graduating class, and it went down hill from there. This team will basically be all of Jimmy's players. I know Sherrone is a Michigan Man and Jimmy recommended him, but it still feels like a stop gap hire to me.

I wanted to comment but I digress to Brady2017 ..... It seems like we are headed it that direction, but hopefully Sherrone grasps the reins before we slide down the slippery slope towards irrelevance.

I can't fault Sherrone for not being able to get a WR transfer this year. I fault Harbaugh for not developing an heir-apparent QB during last year's cupcake pre-conference schedule. What WR is going to transfer to a team without a QB? I also don't think the constant JJ coverage leading up to the draft helped either. If Michigan didn't throw much with JJ (as was stated over and over again), why would a transfer look at Michigan as a viable option for receptions?

Bluemangroup- True. All valid points. But we did put two WR into the league this draft, and they stayed healthy here.

Brady2017 I said way back Moore was the feel good hire. But we'll see, always the benefit of the doubt... My enthusiasm for college football is fading fast. Players forming a union, it will happen, will end it for me...
