Michigan Monday and Tuesday: Basketball Things

Sorry for the catch-up, traveling this week.

First thing first, locking up Dusty was priority #1.  I'm tough on Warde for many legit reasons but he has handled the hiring and extension of Dusty like a pro.  Locking him up and not letting him go to IU was important for the future of Michigan Basketball.

Now to the games.

It's always a tough loss when you lose to your instate rival.  MSU plays good defense, rebounds the ball and is very athletic.   Thy do at time struggle with shooting.  When they get hot from 3, good night and that is what happened to Michigan in the 2nd half.   First half was competitive, 2nd half was lights out when the 3 dropped for Sparty.

The biggest area of concern for me was how athletic MSU was over Michigan.   That was a big disparity on the floor.  Let's hope Michigan shoots better in East Lansing and MSU doesn't.

I did not see the game last night, but my texts were full of things like.

This is ugly

Maybe the worst game I've ever seen

A win is a win

When Gale is your leading scorer with 12 points, things did not go as planned.  Anytime you can get a W on the road in the Big Ten, take it and move on.

  • Kirk Campbell took a lot of heat for Michigan's offense last season and rightly so.  I still think he is a good coach because JJ and Jim like and respect him.  So much so that Jim hired him as an analyst for the Chargers.

Yes, Campbell took a lot of heat, but it was all on Sherone as he's the head coach. Just like when Harbaugh kept Don Brown and his joke of a defense; it all fell on Jimmy. Campbell was fired for the Alabama game, but we saw the same garbage that we blamed Campbell for like a trick pass in the monsoon which made zero sense. I like Sherone as a person and he's not going anywhere as Michigan is spending big time so he will win with talent. This goes back to your reference of Warde who did a good job with Dusty, but he didn't like Jimmy and didn't back him, messed up the hockey and baseball coaches, but they signed him to another 5 years.

so I know this is a shocker, but I'm a bit of a pessimist. While I don't think Warde and Michigan had a choice with Dusty, it would of been nice if we got to see how a year 2 would look before we rushed to rework his contract. There's no guarantee he goes into the portal again and finds a Wolf or a Donaldson. After all, there were fans that thought Juwan was the GOAT after 1 season.

Sorry, guys I haven't be participating I was in Dubai. Just got back. Dang it is boring without college football. In-addition, it is real sad when big programs starting to skip spring football!!

Glad Dusty is signed, sealed and delivered. Nice try, Indiana!

UM can really use 2025 commit 5-Star guard Trey McKenny right now, a bonified playmaker. Outside of Wolf and Donaldson, there's not a lot of 'go to' options.

Crisler looked and sounded great Friday night.

My honest opinion of Jimmy and Warde- At first I was angry at Warde for letting Jimmy leave. But now, in hindsight, Jimmy's gonna do what Jimmy's gonna do. Facts- Warde got Jimmy to stay and extended his contract when popular opinion wanted him fired. Warde also put incentive clauses in Jimmy's contract to motivate him. (It worked). Warde also put an offer on the table after the Championship to make Jimmy the highest paid coach in college football. Jimmy was looking into leaving 3-4 years prior, a clear indication of what he was thinking. Much like when a woman makes up her mind to leave a man, there was nothing that was going to change Jimmy's mind. So any hate or blame that Ward was the reason Jimmy left is all wrongly directed anger. Did I mention NCAA preasure on Jimmy as well? Ya, I honestly think Warde tried, but Jimmy wanted the NFL.

Yes, but this is the way things work now a days. Remember when we were looking for assistant coaches in football? As soon as a coach's name was mentioned in the media, he mysteriously got a new contract extension. Let's be glad we got a good one in Dusty. Don't forget he took Florida Atlantic to the Final Four.

Wish they would have showed the crowd more. I noticed Hutch was back in the building, along with UM alum Mayor Mike Dugan. I know a lot of football recruits were at the game, as well.
