The Hawkeyes were recognized as national champions by the Football Writers Association of America after leading the nation in total offense. The Hawkeyes' 8-1-1 (5-1 Big Ten) campaign ended with a 38-12 Rose Bowl victory over Cal and garnered the No. 2 spot in the final Associated Press poll.
Iowa leading the nation in offense is just crazy. The AP voted LSU National Champs that year. With all that said, Auburn has now taken the National Championship that year for themselves. 😃
