- Michigan has an offer on the table to Chris Bonds a highly recruited DE that blew out his ACL in his junior year and is about 80% on that knee right now.
Bonds went to South Carolina as an unofficial visit, saving his official ones for places like Southern Cal, Alabama and those two “Northern” schools.“Here(USC), Southern Cal and Alabama were three of the best places I’ve visited,” he said. “The schools I wanted to visit are technical schools like Georgia Tech, that still have good football. But definitely Michigan and Notre Dame. Those are
the two I’m anxious to visit.” - Ryan Cheek an Ohio LB turns down offers from EMU, Cincinnati, and others to head to NC State.
- U of M Baseball makes the NCAA regionals and will host the games in A2.
- Angelique S. Chengelis of the Detroit News agrees with me that Michigan needs to reconigize thier Heisman Trophy winners in the new stadium or by retrieing the numbers. After some thought, I prefer the ring of honor then the retiring of numbers.
Heisman to Heisman:
A little more than a week ago, while attending the Brian Griese /Steve Hutchinson golf outing at U-M, I was standing with former Michigan Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard when another former Michigan Heisman Trophy winner, Charles Woodson , walked into the clubhouse.
"There's Mr. Heisman Trophy," Howard said, as he greeted Woodson.
Woodson briefly made the Heisman pose. And at that moment, it hit me that people who follow Michigan football know who the Wolverines' Heisman Trophy winners are, but as much as Michigan strives to not promote players for individual awards, the school does little, if anything, to give the winners of college football's biggest individual prize their permanent moment in the sun.
As Michigan proceeds with its renovation of Michigan Stadium and the addition of luxury suites, it's time for the school to seriously consider how it can best recognize the players who delivered greatness to the program.
Some stadiums have a "ring of honor" that features retired jersey numbers and the names of the players who wore them into retirement. Not saying that's something that can or should be done at Michigan Stadium, but why not honor the retired numbers? And how about statues or busts of the Heisman Trophy winners -- Howard, Woodson and Tom Harmon?
