What is the deal with the Michigan Secondary? Whether it's injury, academics, transfers, crime, or heading to the NFL early the Michigan secondary has taken more then it's fair share of losses lately.
Now comes another one, sophomore safety Vlad Emilien has requested his release from Michigan and will transfer to another school. Your first reaction might be: What? Why? Because it was mine.
Vlad got a little playing time last Saturday and the guy that was ahead of him on the depth chart, walk on Jared Van Slyke is out for the year and he is one snap away from being the starter if Cam Gordon goes down.
Doesn't seem to make sense does it. So why transfer?
The first clue might be getting beat out by a walk-on. The second one might be the long pass from Denard to Roy Roundtree in the Spring Game. Vlad didn't exactly catch Roy and looked pretty slow chasing him. The rumor mill is saying that he lost a few steps after his knee injury his senior year which hasn't healed properly.
Either way, this is another loss to at thin secondary. Any more attrition to the secondary could kill this season.

As much of a Michigan fan as I am, the recruit star ratings used on your website is misleading. I've noticed that you take the more favorable opinion/rating for any given player from either rivals, scout, or espn. Please choose a source and be consistent.
Demar Dorsey is a 5-star on ESPN but a 4-star on both Scout & Rivals. So you used ESPN here
Kellen Jones is a 4-star on Scout but a 3-star on both Rivals and ESPN. So you used Scout here.
I can go on all day. In the end it leads to an inaccurate assessment of our recruiting classes. It's a minor thing but it bothers me. Nonetheless, I'm a fan of your blog
Ok, good feedback. I thought the Michigan fans would want the highest rating of any service. I will change it for the 2011 verbals.
Bob, the only thing that counts is Attitude, Discipline, Desire and Skill sets. All the rest don't mean a hill of beans, and you can only see 2 of those after they get here. Great Job on the blog, keep up the good work.
Go Bighouse !!! (your the voice)
Go Ritch !! (he IS the answer)
Go 2010 Wolverines (they are the result)
....and most of all GO BLUE !!!
Thanks Bob
Let's not kid ourselves. AT Michigan or any other program, if a touted recruit is a bust, he is asked to leave (or at least that message is made very clear). Really sucks in this case since the secondary is put together with duct tape.
