When I sat down on my couch on Saturday, I had Christmas like thoughts running through my head. The weather was warm and it felt like a great day for upsets. I turned on the Illinois - Michigan State game on the BTN and this thought danced through my head: Could Michigan State, Iowa, and Ohio State all get upset today?
Well, we know only Ohio State went down in a football game that I hope all the Wolverines watched. Why you ask? Not because both teams remain on Michigan's schedule (that is a good enough reason to watch) but Wisconsin gave us all a text book example on how to upset a highly ranked team at home. The young Wolverines need to take that class and read that book a couple of times.
Back to my list of things I learned on Saturday that was strangely educational:
- For the young Wolverines, the more things change the more they stay the same.
- Illinois is an improving team and out played Michigan State for close to 3 quarters but couldn't score touchdowns.
- Michigan State seems to be a team dedicated to not beating themselves. They just wait for the other team to make a mistake and then win the game.
- The Minnesota Golden Gophers Athletic Department has a crystal ball. They started writing a press release firing Tim Brewster on Friday if he lost on Saturday. They did and he got fired.
- Michigan for the second straight year made Indiana look much better then they really are.
- Purdue always seems to play better after their first string QB goes out with an injury.
- Kenny Demens is the answer at middle linebacker for Michigan.
- Watching Michigan play this year is not good for my blood pressure
- The Michigan coaches need to spend more time at practice - the soccer team's practice.
- I'm still really upset about Devin not redshirting
- Michigan needs both Denard and Tate this year
- David Molk might be just as important to the Michigan offense as Denard is
- This ABC/ESPN mirror thing is strange. I had the Michigan game on both ABC and ESPN channels. I can't get Texas and Nebraska?
- Speaking of Nebraska, I was real worried about them joining the Big Ten last week, now I feel better.
- I would like to see a replay of the Auburn - Arkansas game.
- The Big Ten champ this year might have 1 or 2 losses.
- My lucky shirt from week 1-5 isn't lucky anymore.
- Those new Tech Fit jersey's didn't look any different
- Michigan's defense can make an average offense look good.
- Greg Robinson might not be the answer at DC. Even I knew the draw was coming on 3rd -16 and the whole Ezeh - Demens thing is mystifying.
- Michigan should put their starting offense line in for field goals. Big Will blocking? I know he was an offensive lineman in high school but come on. Iowa had their first team defense line in.

that was scary, cause i felt like i wrote that blog. Can fan's hold up signs during games. example: picture beheading DC aka PISS POOR or if that is too much, maybe a picture of him with COACH PISS POOR above him. the man must go. if RR doesn't fire him the RR will be fired and we will be to square one, cause HARBAUGH is headed to San Francisco and Les is a mess.
why are we not trying to rotate a better safety (Ray Vinopal) with gordon? Hopkins and shaw are the power backs if they can stay healthy, but i believe inconsistent playing time affects a players mind set. maybe i will play, maybe i won't. if they knew they were the horses, i think they would be ready for the races. And i have nothing against smith, but i see him more in slots or swingman.
DC aka PISS POOR, has got to go. we are not disciplined on defense. that is a reflection of the DC. If u consequences for players when they made mistakes those mistakes would become minimal, since there are no consequences then the same things keep happening.
I actually think Gordon is getting better as the year goes on. He is not a great FS right now, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel. I would like someone a little faster back there. I did also see him wrap up.
I want Greg to go "Bobby Knight" on this unit. I know Bobby isn't the best example for Michigan fans but he was always able to get the best out of his guys even when he didn't have the best talent.
I just haven't seen that this year outside of Kovacs. Michigan REALLY needs a better pass rush. Everytime we pressure the QB we get stops. When the QB has time, he picks Michigan apart.
Only way we get a good pass rush is when we bring 4 not 3. one of the commentator showed that in one of our games this year. we don't have the right personnel for a 3 man rush it should be 4 80% of the time.
Gordon keeps getting beat over the top. At least rotate him with an experienced safety from high school. you can't bring a carpenter to do a electrician's job.
Again coach PISS POOR is piss poor. good coaches get the best out of their players and he does not. Joe Leed Dunn ran this same defense and was very successful. Why don't we make a play for him. Our offense his HOT our defense is NOT. WVU run's the the same D and they are successful. IT'S THE COACH AKA PISS POOR, LET HIM GO.
Great post but I still think fans aren't ready to face reality. Face it, there's only one thing Rich Rod needs to do:
and that's hire himself a head coach.
Fact is, if we don't get rid of RR at the end of 2010, as I've said from the beginning would be necessary, then here's what we get in YEAR FOUR:
A new defensive coordinator.
A team that is NOT better than:
- Nebraska
- Iowa
- Ohio State
- Wisconsin
A team that PROBABLY will be better than:
-Michigan State
-Penn State
-Illinois
-Northwestern
But those are not gimmes. Year four and Michigan will do no better than fifth in the new big 10 and could do as bad as 9th. Year four. Rich Rod has given all Michigan fans proof. He has shown he is one of the best offensive coordinators in the country. He has shown he can't lead Michigan to greatness.
Refusal to accept this is now more the fault of fans who have their head in the sand than Rich's. Sooner we start a painful post-Rod transition, sooner it's over.
As always, Go Blue!
PS: Thanks for not blackballing my comments on your site.
i can't go thru 3-4 more years of transition. he has shown that this offense is prolific, also we put up 522 against iowa.
i like what one guy said about rotating denard and tate when the denard can not break for 40+ on a play. by doing this we become defense's worst nightmare. i would also put denard and tate in at the same time. if we are going to win we must do the unthinkable, we must do things that teams haven't seen on tape yet in clutch situations. Everything we are doing now they've seen and are ready for. RB's have got to block better and stay healthy. RB'S need to touch the ball at least 15-20 times a game. This offense is HOT.
Defense: We need to go with a 4 man front on 1st and 3rd down's all the time. coach PISS POOR doesn't understand this concept.
