Not a ton of surprises, here is what sticks out to me:
  • Big Will is backing up Mike Martin.  Looks like Michigan has 8 guys on the DL that will rotate all over the place.
  • No Cox and Hopkins is 3rd string RB.
  • Odoms is 3rd string at WR.  Gallon has leaped over a guy with experience.  Could be due to injury?
  • SDE is a fight between two walk on's.
  • Thomas Gordon beat out Carvin Johnson at SS
  • Blake Countess beat out G.Brown who was on the team in the Spring.   Which is impressive.
  • The reported battle between Avery and Floyd continues at CB
  • WLB seems very un-settled to me
  • The "or" in the punting and kicking game scares me

Thoughts.................

I think the big difference this year is going to be ATTITUDE. Which will mean the physicality will be there. I think we're going to see a lot of different players playing at these positions that are "OR" oriented. Getting as many guys in each position that are starter equivalent, experience, is going to pay huge dividends for the latter part of the season and the coming years. Head games are really going to make a difference in the confidence these kids will show as the season goes on....I love it, in other words make practice tougher than game time situations....... GO BLUE!!

Your right, we have already heard how tough practice is and I think the coaches will be playing a ton of guys looking for the best "game day" players. My hope is that "Big Will" is one of those guys that doesn't practice well but shows up on game day.

I have a feeling M. Cox might be like that as well.

I think you will find Q. Washington and J. Black in that same catagory. I think you can find quite a few "Gamers" on this team.
There has always been Gamers on Michigan Football Teams, after 30 years of Michigan Football I have finally stopped saying "where in the hell did we get him", their there trust me and it seems when we need them they always show up.
ATTITUDE is everything...it's worth at least 2 stars in recruiting...either way
GO BLUE!!

I think what everyone is saying is that we trust in Hoke and company to properly evaluate, prepare and coach up these guys more so than the RR group. Having someone who knows what they're doing makes all of the difference in the world. Even the players sense that the current staff knows what they are doing and it shows up in their attitude. Of course, we will see as the year goes on but right now it's promising.

I agree, the DL guys that I think will play alot include: Martin, Big Will, Van B, Heininger, Brink, Q, Black and Roh.

I think we will see a lot of guys at LB and safety as well. I would like to see more Marvin Robinson and Josh Furman.

Could Blake Countess be the next great Michigan CB?
