Michigan Monday: Wolverines Up and Down Weekend

If your a Michigan fan it was an up and down weekend.   It started on a high with the commitment of Dan Samuelson and the down of the Ohio State basketball game.  Let's start on the high and talk about the latest offensive lineman to join the Michigan family.

The UP

Dan is 6'5 and in the 280+ range, he is rated 4 stars to Scout and 3 star by all the other services.  His high school coach says he can play either Guard or Tackle which is the type of flexibility the Michigan coaches are looking for.   Dan's top offer list includes: Nebraska, Wake Forest, Wyoming, Pitt, Minnesota and Illinois.

Dan and his family took an official visit to Ann Arbor this weekend after their first trip to Ann Arbor in December.  The big decision point came down to distance.  Ann Arbor is 3 1/2 hours from his home vs. 11 hours to Nebraska.

The big question now is will Michigan take Cameron Hunt who was on a visit this weekend as well?  Cam is saying the Michigan coaches still have a spot for him.  My gut tells me they won't take a 7th offensive lineman in this class.  Dan is the 25th commitment to the 2013 class.

Michigan also had another official visitor this weekend from a 6'2 DB from Ohio in Reon Dawson.  Reon is currently committed to Illinois and had a good visit to Ann Arbor this weekend.  I'm sure both Roy Roundtree and Mike McCray are in Reon's ear about becoming a Wolverine.   Mike is a current teammate of Reon's and Roy also went to Trotwood-Madison.  Reon will announce his decision between Michigan and Illinois on Wednesday.

The last bit of good news is Derrick Green has set a decision date of 1/26 at 4:00.  Yes, it's still a couple weeks away but right now all signs are positive for the Maize and Blue.  DG will pick from Michigan, Auburn and Tennessee.   Brady Hoke will be visiting Derrick this week.

If the Wolverines can land Reon and Derrick, I think they would be done.

The Bad

Michigan got beat by OSU yesterday afternoon.  I have to give credit to the young Wolverines, they got down 21 early and worked the score back to even in the second half.    This team wasn't going un-defeated and OSU is one of the best teams in the Big Ten.   Even though it was a loss, I think this team learned a ton playing in a close game in a hostile environment.

Damon Webb from Cass Tech, one of the best players in Michigan in the 2014 class committed to OSU yesterday.  Hoke has been going into Ohio the last two years and picking off some of the top players in the state, now Urban has returned the favor in grabbing Webb.   Yes, it's a tough loss for the Wolverines for OSU to go into Cass and pull a top player but we are still 13 months away from signing day 2014 and strange things can happen.
