Congratulations to Michigan's Softball team that beat Florida 1-0 last night. That win will force a game 3 showdown and the winner becomes National Champions. Go Luck and Go Blue!
There started to be rumors of a commit later in the afternoon on Tuesday. Jay Harbaugh tweeted out one of his amazing news tweets and the other insiders followed by saying there was BIG news coming. Yes, there was. Cass Tech OG/DT Michael Onwenu committed to the Wolverines last night.. BIG Mike comes in at 6'4 and somewhere in the 365 pounds range and has the size and strength to play on either side of the ball.
All the services rate him as a 4 star player and somewhere in their top 200-300 players in the country. His size and versatility make him an incredible "get" for the Wolverines staff, who have lost a couple good players from Cass Tech to OSU lately. Michael was very high on he Buckeyes early in the process but the Mike Weber situation on signing day and Michigan's new staff really made him think twice about C-Bus.
So where is the big man going to play? Some believe he has been recruited as an offense guard to Michigan but if he fits better on defense, I'm sure the Michigan staff would be open to him playing there as well. He sort of reminds me of another highly rated recruit named Will Campbell. I know this staff will manage his freshman year much better then RR did Will's. With Big Mike's weight probably a bit too high, getting him in the conditioning program as soon as possible will be really important and I expect he would be headed to a red shirt year.
Mike's offers included the likes of : Alabama, Illinois, Miami Fl, Penn State, Ohio State and NC State. Strangely, MSU didn't offer the big instate prospect.
This is Michigan's 7 commitment to the 2016 class and most expect 7-10 more spots available.
Here are some highlights from last year at a Nike camp in Columbus:
- Max Bielfeldt will play his 5th and final year at Indiana. Michigan plays them once next year at Crisler. Happy for Max but not happy that he picked a Big Ten rival. Was hopping he would pick a smaller school where he could get a ton of playing time.
- BBQ at the Big House is scheduled for 8/2
- The expectation for the Alabama Satellite Camp is that 300 players will be attending. USC's Steve Sarkisian is expected to be at the camp in Dallas and Michigan has also added a new camp in Ohio at Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown from June 29-30.
- With all the good news, I almost forgot that David Brandon has landed a new job as the CEO of the struggling brand Toys'R Us. This retailer has had trouble trying to IPO in the past and David is seen as a CEO that has taken two companies public. His third attempt to take a State University public was not successful, as he got fired for telling his clients to "stop drinking and go to bed".

Food for thought... was the silent commit ONWENU, or am I off- base here?
UPDATE ON BRUCEY JENNER: Laugh about Bruce Jenner all you want, but he is very business savvy, Jenner got all his operations paid for, and got a multi-million dollar contract to have his picture on the box of Kellogg's "Fruit Loops". Will be a collectors item, so stock up my friend.
I'm thinking he probably was the silent commit and confirmed it on Tuesday.
