Michigan Tuesday: In Recruiting Sometimes Your Plan B

Big time college football recruiting is not for the timid.  Coaches pull offers after kids commit or even before signing day and sometimes kids commit to a school hoping they will get the offer they are really looking for.

Yesterday, Michigan lost a commit from 4 Star DE Stephen Herron who "everybody and their brother knew" was waiting on a letter from Stanford admissions to see if he qualified academically for The Farm.   He did and quickly de-committed from the Wolverines and is now heading to Stanford.

The good news is, this wasn't a surprise to anyone and Michigan has continued to recruit DE's and have two 5 stars interested and is in the final two for Aeneas DiCosmo who is making a decision between Stanford and Michigan.   5 star's Chris Hinton and George Karlaftis are both long shots but Michigan is still in the race for both guys.

Another data point is that Herron used to be a 5 star and now has dropped to a 4 and his Opening performance came with some negative reviews.

A few notes from Jimmy's Presser in Chicago yesterday:

  • Believes there should be more teams in the playoff model.  8 to 16.
  • On questions on beating rivals:  Improvement will lead to success and championships.
  • Called out Ed Warinner as doing a tremendous job
  • Called Dylan MCaffrey as the most improved QB
  • Willing to do an injury report if it becomes mandated for gambling purposes

Believe you meant Zach Harrison not Chris Hinton. Would be shocked if Hinton went elsewhere.
