Maryland Preview

NBC Wash DC
Time: Noon
Location: Maryland Stadium
Weather: Sunny 50 No Rain
TV: ABC
Stream: ESPN App
Line: Mich -21

Maryland head coach Mike Locksley and Michigan's OC Josh Gattis both shared the same role at Alabama last year.   There was even a report that Josh was going to be Mike's OC at Maryland before Jimmy called.

Both got into a war of words before the season started on who did what at Bama last year.
Doesn't matter now because both have new big time roles and new offenses.  Maryland's offense was great early and bad lately.  Michigan has been the opposite, bad early and hopefully they found their stride against ND.

Tale of the Tape
Healthy Local QB = Michigan
Secondary = Michigan
Defense = Michigan
Coaching = Michigan
Intangibles = Maryland

I didn't do a, is Michigan better than Maryland? post this week, because we already know the answer.  Here are a few stats to see the differences:

Passing D:
Michigan #6
Maryland #116

Rushing D:
Michigan #20
Maryland #56

Total O:
Michigan #78
Maryland #73

The offenses are close and the defenses are not.  Maryland's secondary is clearly struggling.

Say to yourself, its always good to have a win before a bye week if...……….
  • Shea passes for 300 yards for the first time as a Wolverine
  • Nico, DPJ, and Tarik each has a TD
  • Ronnie Bell has over 100 yards receiving
  • HH goes for 100
  • Michigan doesn't turn the ball over
  • Defense shuts down Maryland's offense
Yell, I hate trap games if ………………………..
  • Maryland's offense finds something that works against DB's defense
  • Michigan is road sleep walking
  • Michigan is turning the ball over
  • Maryland is about to make an Illinois turn around
  • Maryland's defensive line is pressuring Shea

Maryland has athletes and recruiting better, they will be better in a few years.   I hope this game isn't the Maryland - OSU game from a year ago.  Maryland found a hole in the OSU defense and continued to pound it, OSU was playing catch-up all day and won in OT.   Mike Locksley probably hasn't slept all week finding a way to exploit the Michigan D as he knows his defense won't be able to slow Michigan.

Michigan won by running the ball for 300 yards last weekend, this week they need to win by passing the ball.  Yes, Michigan won't forget about the run but the Wolverines talented WR's should be running open all day and Shea needs to find them quickly and accurately.  Don't let Maryland hang around and if you get up by 28, keep running the offense.   Also don't let Josh Jackson get the last laugh, as his father says: Josh can read a defense like Brady, run like Vick, and throw like Mahomes.  Josh has a high ankle injury and only played 3 snaps against Minnesota last week.

Michigan 48 Maryland 13

No problem praising your own son, but a little humility goes a long way.

I find it interesting that all those posting the Harbaugh hate disappeared from this site over the last week.

No doubt they will be back after the next bad showing.

I was thinking the exact same thing about harbaugh this week. For the record I'm in his corner win or lose.

We are all still here.... why talk about it every damn day...i would fire him today... there some Harbaugh hate for you that were worried that it had been to long

szanreno said...

What!?!

szanreno said...

Why talk about it every damn day? So I guess you'll stop now? Not bloody likely. Next loss look out.

Cmfgoblue said...

what dont you get.... i said fire him now fuck waiting till the next loss.... your right its not likely that people will want him to stay... therefore some discussion for him being fired would seem appropriate.... now stop this rah rah.. im with you coach.... its a bunch of shit and no one cares about your support of a losing corner

szanreno said...

I care. A little coherency in your posts would help.

You may have a point.... i will work on it right now.... here we go..... Fire Jim even if he beats Osu... cannot be more clear..... Fire Him if he goes undefeated the rest of the way.... this season is over and has been.... that may be the reason for the lack of posts that you were worried about not seeing..... everyone knows that he has not lived up to what he should have... so now that a rain storm came to ann arbor and we beat Maryland everyone is suppose to feel like he has turned it around? I apologize up front for being an asshole about it but good lord.... Maryland?

Your posts sound personal rather than logical. They beat Maryland by 30, what did you want / expect??? What's the plan for replacing him? You don't fire a head coach and everything else stays the same. Lots of things to consider. Let's hear a plan rather than just a rant. If you were the AD what's the plan.

Szanreno, your last sentence is the exact point. Everyone who says fire Jim, then fails to say hire who... other than Mich Bucknut who says Riley. We all wish mich won more. But, my 2 cents is that our offense is stuck bc of Shea. I wish we would have stuck with Dylan last year, esp in hindsight. Think that investment last year would have produced a more dynamic offense this year.

My opinion ( which means nothing btw) is simply that both sides of the Harbaugh debate are relevant. Jim has definitely made the program better that's undeniable. However it's also impossible to ignore his record against top 25 opponents especially on the road. This is where the conflict comes in. We all want Michigan to be successful and to a great degree Harbaugh has done that. There is also an expectation at Michigan to be successful at the highest level & that ( in my useless opinion) has not been met. Is Harbaugh the man to take Michigan to the top? Is it a mistake to change head coaches while yours is having success? I dont know. I am glad we won today. I do hope jim finds the recipe for championship football, but if he doesn't soon I do believe we should consider a change. Just my useless opinion.

Also I'm very proud of the way coach handled the young man with the heart condition. That kind of class in modern college football is extraordinary and deserves more recognition than it got. My hats off to coach Harbaugh for that.

No one has seen enough of Dylan to warrant a change, nothing today impressed. No one associated with or around the program has said he should be starting. Usually someone spouts off inside stuff. How crazy would it be to start your second best qb? Seriously... Someone other than message board folks would be sounding off about it.

Cmfgoblue said...

I expect Michigan to win every game.... um lets see if im the AD.... Charles Woodson....Urban Meyer, Mike Mcarthy, Robert Saleh, Frank Reich, Mike Tomlin,... guys like that.... i could see make a difference... none of them will come to Michigan and i will not be the AD or sit the Iron Thone...

Goblu said...

Yeah, I’m saying my super talent eyes ;) thinks Dylan is better upside. Meaning had we started him last year, I think the team would be better on offense now. That’s all. But, aside from today, I think every game he’s played he’s been better than Shea.

Cmfgoblue said...

Agreed go with Dylan... very easy to see....

szanreno said...

That's your list? Woodson, no experience. The rest outside of Meyer are average at best. If your soul is for sale, hire him.

Cmfgoblue said...

Whats your list Arch Maester szanreno? May us all be privy to your wise council on this beautiful Michigan evening... for songs will be written of your valiant crusade of Harbaugh haters

Goose said...

Lol.😂🤣🤣

szanreno said...

List? I don't have one, I'm not the one on here advocating change nor will I have a say in the choice going forward if it comes to that (it won't). Nor will you. Realistically speaking Harbaugh may quit (doubt it) but he will not be fired.

Cmfgoblue said...

We are all still awaiting some resemblance of wisdom from you fine sir.... it does not appear that there are many links on your chain after all

Goose said...

Man I'm glad we didnt lose. Yall getting crazy after a win.

MichiganMan said...

Sorry guys I know you are all waiting for my post I was on a business trip to Dubai... just finished watching the Maryland game.... yes we did win by 30 but it felt like we lost the game once again.... to all the delusional fans out there check yourself in the mirror stop bs ing yourself.... yes we are a Powerhouse program and yes we won the last 5 National Championships hahaha.... I've been calling firing of Garbagebuh for the past two years.... to all the idiots who want a plan the plan is simple fire Harbaugh go after younger coach of course I support Lincoln Riley or get Urban Meyer's... with or without Harbaugh we are built to win eight or nine games every year

szanreno said...

I was looking at the coaching list, all 65% win percentages or less outside of Meyer. Saleh was was 45%. Here's some wisdom, don't hire anyone from cmfgoblues list. Hahahaha.

MichiganMan said...

Y pay somebody $8m a season when you can pay somebody lot less and still win eight or nine games.... one thing Harbaugh does bring to Michigan is publicity and it is something nice to hear on ESPN or people talk about it

MichiganMan said...

I could see why Finebaum call some Michigan fans idiots.... there are a lot of idiots are on this blog... fans need to start being honest with themselves

Cmfgoblue said...

I think the worst percentage is .000 vs osu

Cmfgoblue said...

Thank you btw... I expected that sort of calculation out of an Arch Maester... we are all the better for it...

szanreno said...

Cherry picking at its best. Thank you.
