College Football kicked off last weekend with an FCS match up that included a former 5 star RB from Ohio State Brian Snead that was kicked out of school for an alleged sexual assault and transferred to Iowa Western before getting to Austin Peay. The first play of the game was a 75 yard TD run (not by Snead) and the strange 2020 season kicks off.
I watched the game on and off but Brian at Mgoblog suspects that maybe COVID hit their Long Snapper Room, as none of them made the trip and the punt snaps were nowhere near accurate. We are going to see a ton of examples like this all season. TE's playing Tackle, LB's playing DE's, and Punters being played by guys on the soccer team. Fun Times.
- It seems the momentum the Big Ten got with a proposed Thanksgiving kickoff or even a winter season is starting to head the other way. Some insiders are skeptical that neither option will pass the President's vote. (those immediate COVID tests - would go a long way on getting one of the options at least considered) Which was 11-3 to cancel the fall season. They also need to make a decision on college basketball soon. Fun Times.
- Michigan is very clear on the rest of the 2021 class 1) Donovan Edwards 2) Drew Kendall 3) Rayshaun Benny 4) George Rooks 5) a DB - Yes, Please for those top 4 guys! All 4 are needed.
- Former Wolverine Jeremey Clark is working out for the Lions.
- A recruitment to keep an eye on is 5 star CB Grosse Point Will Johnson in the 2022 class.

If the B1G teams are cancelled and lose the entire season while the SEC, ACC, etc. play this year then those B1G conferences will be seriously behind in player development and likely recruitment. Those conferences will have had an opportunity to develop players, plays and timing in such a way that cannot be replicated by just practice time alone. I predict that unless the B1G conference and the PAC-12 play this season that none of their teams will win a non-conference game against a team from another conference that played this year if they meet in 2021. Top upper class players are going pro and I would wager that some underclass players are considering transferring. School presidents are pencil pushers and (overall) don't understand sports. They apparently aren't listening to their AD's or coaches.
"Well VOR, what about the virus?" Well what about it? People were catching the virus that weren't even playing sports. Most scientist agree that the healthy athletes aren't likely to be hit no where near as hard as the average person.
Moreover, depending upon whom you're listening to, some experts say that there's more danger coming from the seasonal flu than the virus which reportedly is actually weakening in "real numbers." The school presidents apparently are concerned about being sued over this issue but look at the overall long-term cost to their programs. IMHO!!!
I see that BHR's resident clown has posted again today about his usual topic.
We have another Debbie Downer about the restart of the Big Ten FB season.
Damn right people are afraid to get sued. We have a condo on the coast which I'm on the board of the HOA. Our pool is closed and we can meet every provision to open it except the liability clause. The management lawyer says we could be sued personally if someone catches the covid. I checked with my own personal lawyer and he said the same thing. I asked him how much they could sue for and he looked me dead in the eyes and said "how much you got". Number two, I'm not going to tell football players what to do and put their health on the line if I don't have any skin in the game. Quite honestly I'm going to miss high school football more than college.
Szanreno, you’re an elected member of an HOA. Their is or should be no way you can be sued personally and have it stick...or at least in my state. Maybe that is the issue! We’re run by lawyers who only make things worse since legal aspects, covering their own asses, & making sure it’s never your fault you can sue or blame someone else for it is what they care about most. Personal responsibility and accepting the consequences or benefits or your actions is a thing of the past sadly. You can’t control a virus 100% and holding people liable for it is insane! Never heard someone getting sued for passing a cold, flu, or pneumonia to someone and Covid should be no different!
Good post, completely agree. I've gone down every avenue I know to go down on the issue. Swim at your own risk signs and even waivers that they would sign mean nothing when push comes to shove. Our common sensical society is quickly leaving us.
With the incubation period of cold virus' and flu's, it's practically impossible to prove without a shadow of a doubt where you've picked up where you got it (outside of very controlled conditions).
