Michigan Thursday: Players Heading Out?

Transfers is now part of College Football and Basketball.  You almost have to predict there will be a number of players leaving your roster every year.   Spring Practice is clearly one of those hot spots on whether a player will be starting in the Fall or a back-up.

The latest rumor is Giles Jackson maybe headed to another program.   The speedster was used primarily in a returner role last year and I'm sure was looking for more reps at slot WR this season.   This also could be the classic "home sick" situation as Giles is from California.

If Giles does leave Ann Arbor is total WR stats over 2 seasons would be 24 total catches for 309 yards.  There is some buzz that this could also push Xavier Worthy to leave, as both are close. There was that mix up with him enrolling in January and now the plan is for him to enroll in the summer.   Seems to me Xavier would have a clear path to the field if Giles leaves.

This is just probably the start of bad news and more transfers will pop up.   With new coaches come new schemes and formations and some players will feel they just got out schemed out of the program.

  • Cato June is now an assistant at BGSU
  • There will not be a spring game this year, just an open practice for parents of players on the team.

At this point, I've learned to neither get excited about incoming transfers nor fear outgoing transfers. Remember the euphoria we felt when we heard Shea was coming? Also haven't seen any transfers go on to "star" at their new school, ie Taryk Black. Sparty lives and dies by the transfer portal, UM does not.
