Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend. Michigan Football started the weekend out strong with two new commits to the 2023 class that right now sits at the 51st class on 24/7. That's right 51.
Let's take a quick glimpse at the two new Wolverines.
Fredrick Moore was the first player to commit on 7/1. He is 6'0 175 3-star WR from St. Louis, which has become a hotbed for Michigan recruiting. Fred's ranking won't impress you at the 61st ranked WR and 491 player in the country from 24/7. His offer list included the likes of Illinois, Arkansas, BC, Cincinnati, Colorado, Duke, Iowa ST, Maryland, Kansas, MSU, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Penn State and others. Welcome Freddie!
Next was Semaj Bridgeman and 4 star LB from Philly. This is the 2nd Semaj commit in the 2023 class. This Semaj is 6'2 and 230 pounds and the 20th LB in the country. He is also a the 305th ranked player in the class. This kid had some nice offers, from the likes of Alabama, Florida, FSU, Georgia, LSU, MSU, Nebraska, PSU, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas A&M, and more. With WR Semaj Morgan these two could be very impactful on both sides of the ball in future years. Welcome Semaj!
- Michigan Baseball also hired a coach over the weekend. The hire and candidate was a bit of a surprise. As Tracey Smith has strong experience at IU and ASU but was currently unemployed. From The Michigan Insider:
Smith, 56, was the oldest and most qualified of every candidate Michigan reached out to. Smith is best known for his tenure with the Hoosiers from 2006-14, in which he led Indiana to its second, third and fourth NCAA Tournament appearances all-time, and led the Hoosiers to the College World Series for the only time in their history in 2013. Inheriting a program that had gone 18-45 in Big Ten play the two seasons prior to his arrival, Smith won two Big Ten regular season and three Big Ten Tournament titles. Indiana only won five total league titles in its entire history before Smith's arrival, and has only won one since his departure in 2014.
Leaving Indiana for Arizona State after the 2014 season, Smith left plenty to be desired from his time in Tempe. Arizona State, a powerhouse program with 22 College World Series appearances, five national titles and five runner-up appearances from 1964-2010, never exceeded 38 wins in Smith's seven seasons. After seven seasons without a regional title and only a 201-155 overall record, Smith was let go in 2021.

The new baseball coach has Spencer Torkleson's approval, along with his prediction of reaching the college world series with Smith. Sounds good to me!
Note, the 5 * recruits usually wait the longest to pick a school, so maybe Jimmy knows something we dont at this point in 'cruiting. I'm not worried.

I is here!! Waiting for the nest shoe to drop ... More Pace 10 teams, Notre Dane forced in a corner and has to punt? (Join Big 10?) What happened to the good old days where in 1976 Ohiop State and Michigan played all option (kind of) and no passes that game ... but alas some changes are good (like passing attack), but you have to go with the flow, the underlying current of change is so strong to try to swim against it is futile!

Scott is spot on, the days of 3 yards and a cloud of dust are over. Hopefully UM can get to the head of the curve on all the latest trends.
