Wolverine Wednesday: Santa Is Coming To Town

Reports are that the University of Michigan will introduce its new President today at the Regents meeting.  Santa Ono, President of UBC is expected to become the 15th president of the University of Michigan.

Per Mlive:

Santa Ono, president and vice chancellor of the University of British Columbia, is pending approval by the university’s Board of Regents during a 1 p.m. special meeting on Wednesday, a source close to the university confirmed to MLive/The Ann Arbor News.

Ono has led UBC, a public university whose main campus is in Vancouver, since 2016. Prior to that, he was president of the University of Cincinnati, as well as a professor of pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He has also been a faculty member at multiple colleges including Harvard and Johns Hopkins.Ono is known for his support of college athletics, including him crowd surfing at Cincinnati football game, musing about College Football Playoff rankings and providing updates on Twitter for the Cincinnati basketball coach search.

Regents Sarah Hubbard and Denise Ilitch led the search committee for the president, which hired Boston-based executive search firm Isaacson Miller to assist.

This seems like a home run hire for a President to have led multiple Universities and a strong supporter of athletics.  No word yet, if there will be a meet and greet (with a photo) in the center court of the Briarwood Mall.

  • Saddi Washington's dad has past away.  RIP
  • Caleb Houstan signed a $8.2M deal with Orlando, with the first 2 years guaranteed.  Meaning he will make roughly $4M no matter what happens with his career.
