I decided to do a Michigan Friday post prior to the preview, just on all the things that happened on Thursday. None of it, I would consider "good news". Expect the Big Ten Championship Game Preview later this afternoon.
1. Mazi Smith, charged on a felony weapons charge. The net is that Mazi was in the process of getting a concealed gun permit and had a gun in the glove box of his car. He gets pulled over before its approved (its now approved) in October and charges were just filed this week. He has been upfront with the program and will continue playing. He was released yesterday after his hearing and can travel with the team. This is expected to be pleaded down with a fine or community service (maybe both). I think Michigan could have been more up front about this situation. Not a good look and terrible timing.
2. Blake Corum is going to have knee surgery today. One play against Illinois, cost Blake a trip to NYC as a Heisman Finalist, maybe a huge game against Ohio State, and now the Big Ten Championship game. We of course don't know any details, if it's a scope, maybe he is back for the CFP, if it's something more serious he could miss the NFL combine and might have to make a decision on staying in Ann Arbor for another year.
3. Cade transfers to Iowa. Ok, he is clearly their best QB and won't have to worry about a 5-star knocking at his door. They also have a strong running game and a great defense. They also don't play Michigan next year (unless it's in the Big 10 Championship game). On the other hand, Iowa has one of the worst college offenses I've ever seen. I have zero confidence in their offensive coaching staff. I know there is now a small transfer window now, but the timing for a current Michigan captain could've better. I'm pulling for him and hope Michigan never has to play against him. Also, will he be fully healed after his surgery?
That is too much bad Michigan news in just one day.
I had strong reactions to the first two breaking news bites, with a word that started with an F and ended with a K. I started thinking that both Morris and Mazi could be out against Purdue? As details came out, I felt better about the situation. This was my fear for Blake and I hope it's not serious surgery. Jimmy did say there wasn't any structural damage after it happened, but maybe they didn't have all the information at that time.
My buddy texted me; "Did I miss any other news on the day" at about 10:00 last night. I said, no but we still have 2 hours for Jimmy to take the Colorado job. (that's a joke folks)
What a F'ing Day.

Do we know if Donavan is going to be fully healed for tomorrow, or more/less same as Ohio game? Any word if Schoon is back too?
If you believe that good & bad things happens in three's, then perhaps were now due for the power of #3 to come forth our way. That is in winning a Big 10 Championship, a CFP semifinal win, and a CFP National Championship. Let the magic began tomorrow!
The Cade thing: the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Good: he'll be the man at Iowa. Their QB play been absolutely ass for the past few seasons, Cade immediately makes that position better. The Bad: he's transferring w/i the B1G. I can't help this is an FU directly toward Jim. That's ok, that's Cade's prerogative. The Ugly: Iowa's offense, particularly the scheme. Kirk Ferentz and his son's offense has set back football by at least 3 decades.
Virtually NO competition at QB
Good read, lots of good info. T.y., Bob.
