Michigan Thursday: Cade Speaks

Cade McNamara goes on The Room Podcast on YouTube with Jordan Rodgers and Kyle Allen, who have both known Cade since he was in junior high and high school.

Cade details what happened this season.  He talks about spring ball and not playing well this year.  He tore his patella against MSU last season and MCL this season.   It sounds like the Michigan doctors told him he could play through his torn patella and was advised to not have the surgery.  His doctor in LA was shocked where his knee was prior to the surgery.   He continues to be in LA to rehab.

He also talks about the portal and his Iowa commitment.  That he was the first QB in the portal and decided not to jump into the portal mid-season due to being voted a team captain.  He also rips NIL and that he didn't make much as he thought as the Michigan QB (that Michigan's NIL is not well organized).

I have a ton of respect for Cade and wish him luck in whatever he does.  The bottom line is that he played poorly against Georgia and early this season against very poor competition.  The injury I'm sure didn't help his play but JJ is more mobile and has a stronger arm.  Ton of respect for what he did at Michigan and how he helped turn the program around.  Would of preferred that he stayed quiet about the details as they sound a bit like sour grapes.

  • Speaking of Iowa, Erick All is visiting and will decide between Iowa, Washington, and ND next week.
  • Wisconsin is really going to try to change and has hired UNC's OC Phil Longo.
  • Henry a former 4 star DE commit who went to Oklahoma is now in the portal.  He was thrown off the team for a disciplinary issue.
  • Lance Taylor Louisville's OC is getting the WMU job.
  • Jeff Brohm got the Louisville job.  Now Purdue is open.

I will agree with Cade that Michigan does have to do a better job with NIL. I'm not saying they need to go where Texas A&M did (side note, some of those highly recruited and highly paid(NIL) players are now in the portal). But they do need to do a better job of making sure when players come to Michigan they have a chance to cash in on NIL. I know many will disagree, but that's the new landscape of college sports, and unless the NCAA bans it or at least regulates it, Michigan has to pay the game.

Will be interesting to see how/if NIL evolves with giving these kids $ up front and then they leave. Will have to evolve to pay over time, but that’s shifting risk.

100% agree that Cade sounds like sour grapes. He had every opportunity here. Blaming the best medical school in the country sounds bad. Can't say I will root for a quitter.

All is considering schools I love to root against. Perfect! Hope he stays healthy long enough for me to watch him lose. Guy sounds like a duche.
