Erick All has had an interesting time as a Wolverine. Last year, he saved Michigan's season with a short catch and long run against Penn State, considered turning pro but came back for another year. He is named a captain prior to the season. He then gets a Big Ten Network profile done on him, showing a fire fighter saving his life from a fire when he was a baby. If that story, doesn't get you emotional your heart is not beating. He then becomes a father early in the season and continues to play well.
Erick injures his back in the non-conference and we really don't see him the rest of the season. He pops up on social media getting a back procedure in Florida after Hurricane Ian. Its now expected he is done for the season with the hope he takes a medical year and comes back to Ann Arbor. Michigan gets a special waiver for him to travel to the Ohio State game. Announces last week he is coming back and yesterday jumps into the portal. With this tweet:
"Wolverine nation, love you guys but it's time for me to move on," he tweeted. "I know some of you are wondering why I would leave and the answer to that question is unexpected. Not everything/everyone are what they seem and I learned that from my time here at Michigan. Sometimes you have to let go and do what's best for you and your family. Love you guys. Go Blue.
It's hard to dissect that tweet when we don't know what he means. John U Bacon reported insiders say its not NIL related as some suspected he wanted more money to support his young family. Cade is his roommate and maybe he made a pitch to Erick to join him at Iowa (his expected destination). Lastly, it could be how Michigan handled his back injury as getting surgery outside the Michigan network was a unique decision.
The only other option is, maybe Jimmy didn't offer him a chance to return? Loveland seems to be a future star and coming off a nice freshman year and Michigan has two TE's in the 2023 class. We also know that coaches believe that the best ability is availability. Erick has been very limited in his availability the last two seasons.
Whatever the reason, I'm sad to see him go and wish him nothing but success and good health at his new school.
- TE Louis Hansen also enters the portal.
- Olu is a Remington finalist
- Biff hires Ryan Osborn as DC at Charlotte
- Sherrone Moore has shot down interest from WMU in hiring him for their head coaching position
- Olu has accepted an invite to the Senior Bowl
- Corum didn't get included in the Heisman finalist list. Which has become a QB award.
- Over 700 players jumped into the portal on Monday.

I have connections that say All would never be cleared to play again at UM due to his back surgery. Not confirmed yet, but makes sense if true.
If All left for a non-health issue, then I think you all know how I feel about players that quit on their teammates and won't fight for their spot on a team. Time will tell.
Brady,
Interesting as it would dovetail with why he ended up having his back surgery outside the Michigan system.
Chowman,good point!
Brady,
I can imagine that you are right about this. Back surgeries can be life altering and maybe the doctors told him "Don't let him back onto the field." Michigan has told other players the same thing before, some took a medical scholarship and others transferred. Keep in mind that Erick and family are still hoping for that big NFL paycheck. They are so close to it, and he's already on the NFL radar. He only needs one more season to show he is healthy. At present, no NFL team (with his current medical report) would likely touch him. If Michigan let him play with his condition, I can't help but wonder if their legal department warned them of their potential liabilities? IMHO!!!
