Michigan Monday: Updates Everything

Harbaugh watch update: It's been confirmed that Jimmy will be interviewing with the Broncos this week.  Many insiders feel this is another attempt by Jim's new agent to get Michigan back to the table with a long-term contract.  Sign him to a $10M a year 8-year contract with a $20M buyout, so we can stop with this Merry-go-round each year.

One reason to consider the Bronco's interview, not that serious.  It's virtual.  They're also already negotiating with the Saints on compensation for Sean Payton.

Today is the day where NFL coaches get fired, Lovie Smith has already been let go.  So don't be surprised if Jim's name comes up today for other jobs.  I don't expect he is at all interested in going to a franchise that has fired 2 coaches in 2 years after both only had 1 year on the job.

My Spidey senses were correct on Carolina, who is not considering Jimmy.

Michigan's NCAA Update: The rumored infraction the NCAA got bothered by is a lunch where Harbaugh bought 2 cheeseburgers for visiting recruits at the Brown Jug.  Evidently, Harbaugh wasn't forthcoming about the serious nature of cheese and beef.   Also, the NCAA may change the rule about not letting Analysts coach during practice.  This happens at every program and that rule does need to change.  (this was one of Michigan's level 2 infractions)

NCAA Championship Tonight:  Of course, this is bitter sweet for all of us as Georgia is still nearly a 2 TD favorite at 12.5.  One thing I'm interested in, is how many people tune in to this game?   I think it's a mistake having it on Monday night after a full NFL weekend.   The game should've been played Saturday night and asked the NFL to play at 1 and 4 or just move another game to Sunday.

Does this game beat the Michigan - TCU high point of over 26M viewers?

  • Juwan's team lost in East Lansing.  Still need to get better if they're going to win games on the road in the Big 10.  Glad to see Sparty has a football team to root for now in TCU.  I also enjoyed that Izzo thanked Mel Brooks after the game.  That is confusing, but ok.  😀
  • The Detective Deuce Spurlock is going to take his "crime solving" skills to Gainsville.  They really could've used a good detective when Urban was there.   Billy Napier recruited The Detective out of high school and they have a huge need at LB.
  • Schoonmaker made it official and will enter the NFL Draft.  Good luck!
  • Hutch's first NFL Season is over.  With his 9.5 sacks and 3 interceptions, there are only two defensive line players to ever have those stats, Hutch and Richard Dent.  Well done and congratulations to him and the Detroit Lions on playing with heart and the turnaround this year.
  • Speaking of Pass Rush U: David Ojabo got his first NFL sack on Sunday and it was strip sack!
  • On Friday, DJ Turner decided to head to the NFL, this was expected.  Good luck DJ!
  • Remember RB Christian Turner?  He has been at Wake the last 2 years.  He has now transferred to IU.

You didn't mention that Carolina said they never contacted Harbaugh, Harbaugh contacted them. This is going against his word that he said he would never pursue an NFL job. He's hurting recruiting again this can't go on get rid of him

Not buying it. Why would Jim go thru all this drama with the potential of gutting your roster and sabotaging your recruiting to get a raise? All he or his agent have to do is go to Warde and say: PAY ME! 2 straight wins over OSU! 2 straight B1G championships! 2 straight trips to the CFP PAY ME! I've been following college football for 40 years, never seen anything like this. Did Saban ever do this to Bama? One only does this if you don't care if they burn bridges! What would be the hold up? Warde doesn't want to pay him? If so, then maybe Warde no longer wants to be the AD because the fanbase would run him out of town! Michigan don't have the money? Like Michigan doesn't have deep pocketed alums that could facilitate a new contract for Jim. Only makes sense if Jim really wants to go back to the league. I just think interest in him in the NFL is lukewarm at best. No at the of the NFL coaching carousel Jim will drag himself back to AA just like last year!

Harbaugh is telling people both publicly and privately he wants to stay at UM, with his agent feeding the news for contract talk leverage. College coaches do this all the time with other college jobs - James Franklin has made a career out of being somewhat linked to other college jobs while in contract negotiations.

This all looks to me like negotiations on everyone's part, with the likelihood of Harbaugh ending up with a new contract that pays him and his staff a ton of money along with assurances that UM will support him and clear him of this bullshit level 1 NCAA investigation.

Blue, contract leverage he has none he signed a new contract last year what is he negotiating here nothing. I don't think the NFL wants him

Blue do you really think Michigan doesn't want to extend him and pay him more money? You really think Warde and the University is playing hardball with Jim? I just don't see it! If you don't think he's worth it you move on, you don't play hardball, and the University has ZERO leverage after the past 2 seasons! After 2020, Warde had him by the short hairs, now Jim has ALL the leverage. There are members of this fanbase that will lose their minds if Jim leaves, I'm talking RichRod PTSD! I agree with Ron, I don't see there's this groundswell of interest in Jim from the NFL. He's there, so we'll interview him, but he's nobody's plan A, probably nobody's Plan B, and maybe only a Plan C. But I really think Jim wants to be back in the NFL cause he really really wants to get that SB ring so John doesn't have that to hold over his head. That's how his mind works. And James Franklin is a lot like Brian Kelly. He's only one bad season away from the fanbase turning on him. I work with a ND alum. When Kelly took the job at LSU I asked her how upset are you with Kelly leaving 1 to 10. 10 being distraught, 1 being NBD. She said -2. That Brian Kelly was always one step ahead of the chopping block. Just about when the alumni and fans had their fill of him, he'd put together a great season and they would relent and say they couldn't fire him now. Franklin is the same way at PSU. Guys a great recruiter, but lacks game management skills!

Ron, what the NFL thinks and what Jim believes are 2 vastly different opinions. Jim thought the Minnesota job last year was his, but they never really seriously considered him. I've been on record that Warde isn't a very good AD, but he doesn't want to be the guy that let Jim walk. So even though he signed a new contract last year, if Jim went into Warde's office and said "I"m back! Pay me!". You think Warde is saying no? He's getting on the phone and finding which alums will contribute to the Keep Jimmy in AA fund! Jim does have all the leverage with Michigan. What was our record vs OSU prior to 2021? How many trips have we made to Indy prior to 2021? How many B1G championships did we win prior to 2021? How many CFP games have we played in prior to 2021? Jim doesn't have to flirt with NFL to get a raise. He just needs to get it leaked to the media that he wants a longer contract and job security with Michigan and Warde doesn't want to play ball!

He doesn't have s*** for leverage here.. you think they're going to rip up the contract and give them more money you're crazy if he wants more money go to the NFL

Ron you going to let him walk? You think the majority of the fan base is ok with him walking? I know UofM fans that are having anxiety attacks over what will we do if Jim goes to the NFL. You and I are on the same page I think, we don't think the NFL wants Jim, but there's a large portion of this fan base that are shell shocked by the RichRod hire and then by the Brady Hoke hire. It's Jim or Bust for them! And you can do it without costing the University a dime. Just like MSU did with Tucker's contract and what Bama does with Saban, they call the boosters and alums for the money. My opinion, its not about the money, its about Jim really wants the NFL but that the NFL doesn't want him. Now don't be surprised if Jim has no choice to come back to AA, but with hat and hand, and Warde will give him more money so Jim can save face! Isn't kinda of weird that Warde is sooooooooo quiet about Harbaugh's shaking his money maker for the NFL again? After all he just got a new contract right? If Jim had no leverage, Warde should tell Jim piss or get off the pot. He can't cause he knows Jim will leave!

Ron said...

No I don't want him to walk. I want him to coach here forever but I don't think he wants to coach here forever he wants to go to the NFL when a super bowl I say let him go

Poor little jimmy. Everyone feels so sorry because he says one thing and does the other. This Jimmy soap opera will continue every year he stays at Michigan. Time for him to pack up and leave. That's the only way the drama stops. As for me....the sooner the better for recruiting.

DJ is making a mistake. The last few DBs to leave early didn't even get drafted and I don't think he will either.
