Michigan Football has a tricky situation with the top player out of Idaho. As you know, Michigan recently went to Idaho and pulled out a future star in TE Colston Loveland. In the 2024 class, they are focused on 4-star Gatlin Bair a WR with blazing speed, who is announcing his verbal commitment on August 5th. Currently, there are zero predictions for Bair on 24/7 but he did make a recent visit to Ann Arbor.
Whichever program Gatlin picks on 8/5, he is not expected to show up to campus until sometime in 2026 due to a mission. This is a similar situation to current Wolverine offensive lineman Andrew Gentry from Colorado. Some 3 years ago, Michigan was very high on Andrew who was also scheduled to go on a mission. He weighed his decisions and committed to Virgina over Michigan and then went on his mission. He spent two years away from football, could only workout for an hour a day, and lost a ton of weight.
When his mission was complete, UVA was going in a different direction and recently had let go of the head coach Andrew committed to. Andrew decided Ann Arbor was the place for him and last season was his freshman year. He is now up to over 300 pounds and 6'7. He played in 3 games last year, mostly on special teams. Michigan continues to be very high on Andrew and probably the starting tackle in a couple years.
The tricky part is, whichever team Gatlin picks it's just a verbal commitment for over 2+ years. You also never know what's going to happen when you step away from the game for 2 years. It's a really no harm, no foul type of situation. Michigan doesn't have to hold a scholarship open for 2 years and Gatlin in two years can make a final decision if Ann Arbor is right for him.
We will see what happens on 8/5 and in 2 years.
