Michigan Basketball needs players for next season. Transfers and the NBA Draft are killing all the momentum Juwan has created from great recruiting and Sweet 16 runs. Players are never going to get a huge bag of money from Michigan, which has always been a problem for Michigan coaches and attracting top talent. In a world where FAU made a run to the Final 4, Michigan Basketball and Juwan need to find a different way.
The latest rumored prospect is 6'5 guard Jose Perez a "soft of" WVU transfer. What do you mean by "sort of" Bob?
Well, Mr. Perez has been well traveled during his college basketball career. Let's take a look:
2018-19 Gardner-Webb
2019-20 Gardner-Webb
2020-21 Marquette
2020-21 Marquette
2021-22 Manhattan
2022-23 West Virgina
Currently - in transfer portal
Perez averaged 15 points per game at GW, struggled at Marquette, and averaged over 18 points per game at Manhattan. He had to sit out a year at WVU because the NCAA would not grant a waiver for Jose to play right away. With Huggins setting flame to his coaching career, he is now back in the portal looking for his 5th school.
I would assume Perez is a graduate transfer which would help with Michigan's tough admissions policies. A 6'5 guard that can score nearly 20 points a game would be a nice Caleb Love replacement. If he does end up in Ann Arbor, I hope he is the guy from Manhattan and not the guy that played at Marquette.
