Big Ten Preview Week 9 - Lots of Gift Baskets

Not a great slate of Big Ten games this weekend.  Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, and Rutgers are enjoying  on bye weeks.   We have had enough off the field distractions this week, let's get to the games.

Indiana @ Penn State (-32): James Franklin should send Michigan a gift basket.  If it wasn't for the Wolverines dominating the headlines, a narrative this week might be that Franklin is 0-10 against top 15 teams on the road and that Penn State's offensive play calling looked like it was being called by an Economics high school teacher.  They won't have the problem this week.  PSU 41 IU 7

Maryland (-13.5) @ Northwestern: There should be a second gift basket sent to Ann Arbor from Maryland.  As co-OC with Gattis, Kevin Sumlin was arrested over their bye week in Florida with a DUI.  Maryland again looked like a promising team early this season to get beat by Ohio State and Illinois in back-to-back weeks.  Maryland 30 Northwestern 21

MSU @ Minnesota (-7): Yes, a third basket from the Spartans to Michigan.  Why in the world would MSU send a gift basket after getting embarrassed last week?  Spartans considered not playing, Hitler, getting blown out, Dan Enos is a former QB, 2 players leave the team this week, suspended offensive lineman for the 1st half, and Tuck is found guilty of sexual harassment by an internal investigation.  That's why.  Did PJ have his signature win over a bad Iowa team last week? Maybe.  Minnesota 17 MSU 14

Purdue @ Nebraska (-2.5): Matt Rhule has Nebraska over .500 for the first time this season, with an eye on 6 wins and a bowl game.  Purdue is rebuilding and has a trip to Ann Arbor scheduled for next week, if the NCAA allows Michigan to attend (that is a joke).  I feel bad for whoever Connor was sending to this game. (so is this).  Nebraska 21 Purdue 20

Ohio State (14.5) @ Wisconsin: This had the makings of a nice game between two solid football teams a few weeks ago.  As the former Buckeye, now at Wisconsin is looking for revenge for not hiring him.  Then Wisconsin's transfer QB gets hurt and Wisconsin turned into Purdue.  Being a two TD+ dog at home hurts.  NBC sure is getting lucky with these primetime games.  Why not come to Ann Arbor next week for Purdue @ Michigan?  OSU 31 Wisconsin 13

  • Cade had surgery on his ACL and has vowed to come back to Iowa Football for another year.  At least he will have a different OC next season.
