Michigan Thursday: Big Ten Preview Week 8

The Big Ten finally has a high-profile conference game between top 10 teams, when Penn State travels to Ohio State.  Michigan and MSU of course play a rivalry game and Iowa continues to win the West with defense only.

Penn State @ Ohio State (-4.5): Both teams have young QB's that have looked great and not so good at times this season.  The edge in this game has to go with the home team as Penn State does not play well on the road and mostly against top 10 teams.  Harbaugh's record against ranked teams used to get reported non-stop but James Franklin's is worse.   OSU 28 PSU 17

Rutgers (-5) @ IU: Rutgers is 5-2 this season and decent at football.  IU just got rolled in the Big House and Rutgers came back from 18 down in the 4th to beat Sparty.  Rutgers 20 IU 13

Minnesota @ Iowa (-3.5): Will the Golden Gophers show up at any point this year?  I would say they are one of the biggest disappointments of the Big Ten.  Iowa just continues to do what they do, while backing into the Big Ten Championship game.  Iowa 17 Minnesota 7

Wisconsin (-2.5) @ Illinois: Wisconsin's season is over after losing their #1 QB a transfer from SMU.  Illinois showed some life last week.  I think Illinois wins an ugly one.  Illinois 21 Wisconsin 15

Northwestern @ Nebraska (-11.5): Please don't watch this game.  This game was not even played in the US last season.  Nebraska 24 Northwestern 10

  • The arrival of Deion in Colorado has really helped ESPN's College Football ratings after losing the Big Ten.  It will be interesting to see if that continues with Big Ten Football match-ups getting better in October and November.
  • I think Jordan Poole might average 40 a game for the Wizards. He had 41 in a pre-season game last night.
  • Over this week, I have given plenty of things for Michigan fans to be concerned about on Saturday with: Rivalry Game, Night Game, and Grass Field.  Should we include Mark Dantonio back on staff as another?   Quick story, I was in the press box at the Big House for an MSU- Michigan game.  That was the year Dantonio had a heart condition and coached from the press box.  After the game which MSU won, he passed me in the tunnel and had the biggest grin on his face.  The guy never smiles, but he did that day.
  • The 31.5 Over/Under for Minnesota - Iowa is one of the lowest O/U's in 31 years.

Great run-down Bob.

I'll be honest. This Saturday concerns me. I know, I know. We have - by far - the better team. We are clicking and they are coming off an ugly loss.

I hope I am wrong, but I think this game will be close. Michigan State at night and on the road.

I hope I eat crow and we hammer them, but I am concerned.
