A $20M Problem

I'm in the camp that believes coaches who live and breathe football 24x7 are not stupid.  Michigan was an elite team the last two years.  They had an elite QB, RB, OL, and Defense.  That combination Michigan rode to a National Championship after two years of hitting their head on the door of the CFP's.

Texas is the new Michigan and they proved that on Saturday.

There are plenty of reasons to point to on what happened Saturday.  But the biggest is $20M.
Ohio State, Miami, Oregon, Texas, etc was tired of losing and went into the portal and spent a boatload of money to bring talent to their programs.   Many of these teams tried to fish from Michigan's roster.  Alabama landed our backup Safety for $2-$3M.  Just think what Graham, Will Johnson, or Ken Grant would've fetched in the open market.

This is college football now and you either spend with the big boys or your Clemson or Iowa.  Guess where Michigan is trending to.

Fuck what happened yesterday.  We have 2023 and Early 2024.  Texas is the better team all around.  It wasn't close and Michigan wasn't even trying to win in the 2nd half.  It would've been a good game last season.

Back to the $20M.  Sherrone and his new staff could clearly assess this team that 100% lacks playmakers on offense with a brand new offensive line.  They went into the portal and got a slot WR from Youngstown State.  Michigan didn't have $20M to spend and what they did have they spent on saving the current stars on defense.   I'm not saying either one is a life saver but Michigan had two former backup QB's starting for other teams on Saturday.   Matt Weiss and his lack of QB recruiting (or lack of money to recruit a QB) has potentially killed this season.  Michigan's best offensive player is a transfer and it's a kicker.

How do you not bring in a serviceable QB?  Or another starting WR?  No money =No Championships.  This is college football now and the reason Saban works for ESPN now.

I was against the Wink hire from the start.  Michigan had success with young DC's that could recruit and develop talent.  Wink might be the OG of this system but he is washed.  He was washed in the NFL and everyone knew it.  This team had to win on defense and it clearly didn't yesterday.

Michigan has too many problems on offense to list.  We can dig into that next weekend.  Jack Tuttle please save us!

I gave up hope after the attempted Orgi run up the middle on short yardage in the red zone. Very unimaginative...

Bob, you beat me too it .... yes, Michigan should have brought in a Quarterback out of the portal.... but one sportswriter put at least 50% of loss on Harbaugh. I jumped on you severely for yelling at Harbaugh for taking a lot of assistant coaches Harbaugh had a chance in the first half of December to bring in a gunslinger but sat on his hands (and did nothing) when Sherrone became head coach they were all taken but a few crumbs. Why did Harbaugh do nothing? Revenge against the AD, or just wanted to look like Michigan can't live without him.... had to know a problem was brewing for 2024! I now defer to our resident guru Brady2017, because "I know nothing". It's a new world order out there, either get with it, or eat their dust!

Agreed! Either Michigan gets off the porch and runs with the big dawgs, i.e. spend big time NIL or they'll be relegated to being an also ran. The fact that Moore, the OC last year thought it was acceptable to go into the season with the QB room he had is damning and quite frankly tells me he's not the guy. Warren is a nice story, leukemia survivor and all, but his resume doesn't support him being a power 5 QB. Orji isn't even a QB. how bad is Denegal he can't beat out either of those guys? Jimmy was a lot of things to a lot of people, but one thing he was, was not afraid to go out and get guys to make his team better and wasn't afraid of bruising his existing players egos!

You have no IQ. Please do not ever write here again

Chow mein I do agree with you... Warren need to sit on the bench. Let Orji start

And there were many fans that thought the D would be even better cause Wink was the OG. Well sometimes the students become the teacher. There's a reason John cut him loose. Daboll grabbed him thinking he was upgrading his DC, but soon regretted the move as Wink was insubordinate in NY telling Daboll to get out of his office and nobody tells him how to coach defense. Giants were getting torched by all Winks blitzing, cause NY was putting the equivalent of homeless guys out in the secondary due to so many injuries. The word that was used for the relationship in NY was toxic. Hearsay? Cool, but Wink looked lost on the sideline yesterday! After he and the Giants parted ways, not one of the other 30 teams picked up the phone! Just sayin'

Guys, we just won a national championship last year and also we lost so many players to the NFL. It's a rebuilding year so just relax. Stay cool, stay calm. Stay collective. Don't expect too much. We go 8 and 4 That's expected

Whole lot of blah blah blah blah blah blah.... Without t, any meaning?

Our Michigan nation is stunned. We need to be boisterous in raising support for our beloved Wolverines. Maybe our athletic department will hear us.

Agree Michigan Man. Worse case scenario 7-5, best case 9-3. The receivers need to help Warren out too. There is a reason that Orji is not playing much. If he could pass, he would be playing more.

To Chowman: Your reply to MichiganMan made me howl with laughter .... he asked for it and you served it on a silver platter. Made the loss easier to take (a tad easier!)

Sheman, what's a matter bucky? My other post have too many words for you? Ok, I'll dumb it down for you: Sheman not smart.....Sheman very dumb...... Now go away and let the adults have a conversation.

Whether Warren plays or someone else plays, it is guaranteed to win. So no loss here starting a different quarterback

Texas was the better team; no question. My main complaint is that all Spring/Summer/Fall we heard that the QB situation was competitive and Davis Warren simply beat out Orji - taking the staff up to the week before the Fresno State game to determine the starter. Our D was going to as good. The DON was back and we were going to play power football.
The reality? The coachin staff cannot judge QB talent, cannot develop it, OR they simply lied to us. The OL is a work in progress and the defense cannot play against top teams like Texas. We weren't told the truth - or worse; the coaching staff may not be able to judge talent at the elite level.
Here is hoping Sherrone Moore is a great coach....but he has some serious soul searching to do. What direction is Sherrone Moore taking this Michigan football team?
Bo Schembechler could take BJ Dickey, Rick Hewlett, and Steve Smith (sub-par QBs) and produce an offense. But BO had an IDENTITY to the program. Moore has to make his stamp...no one elses. Go Blue, get tough, beat USC.
