I know Michigan hasn't played Notre Dame in a minute and MSU is on the schedule every year. But for me (and I would imagine many Michigan fans) rank the Wolverines Rivals as follows:
1. Ohio State
2. Notre Dame
3. Michigan State
The Michigan - MSU thing is more of a nasty distraction then a rivalry. MSU fans know that and they hate that. When ND was on the schedule every year, there would be two must wins for me: ND and OSU. Some years it was the first game and the last game of the season.
So now they match-up in a National Championship game a week from today. As of right now OSU is a -8.5 favorite, I've seen it as high as 13. So the money is moving to ND and the points. Marcus Freeman plays his old team in the biggest game of his career.
I was actually proud of Texas as they watched the Michigan game and played defense that took away the long ball and controlled the OSU offense. The issue was they didn't tackle very well on the dump off routes and clearly didn't score enough points on offense. I expect Marcus is smart enough to game plan like Wink and Texas did vs. doing their own thing like Tennessee and Oregon did.
Lots of stuff happened this weekend so let's get to the news bullets:
- Orji transfers to UNLV. They like to throw the ball, so not sure the play here. I'm sure Dan Mullen has a plan.
- Owen Wafle transfers to Penn State. He is from NJ and this gets him closer to home.
- Michigan adds UMASS WR Anthony Simpson his stops also includes Arizona. Simpson put up some decent numbers at UMass in 2023 and less so at Arizona prior. He only played in 2 games in 2024 before getting injured and jumping into the portal during the season. He is also known as a returner. Simpson played for Michigan TE coach Steve Casula, so I assume Steve sees his upside. If your looking for a comp, I would say AJ Henning. Maybe a couple catches a game and a many touches as a returner. Michigan needs WR's and this is an important pick-up.
- Michigan adds Louisiana CB Caleb Anderson. I don't know much about Caleb, but I like this pick up because he used to be coached by Michigan's DB coach Lamar Morgan. He is 6'3 and this will be his 6 year of college football, so Yes, Please!
- Robinson the WR from App State commits to UCLA
- Michigan Basketball has the top offense in the country over the last month as they beat UW at Crisler on Sunday. Love that Vlad found his game after a slow start to the season.
- RIP Bo assistant and Colorado Head Coach Bill McCartney

Of all the teams in the CFP the 2 teams that I least wanted to win the Naty were OSU and ND. Oh my God what an effing nightmare! My disdain for OSU goes without explanation, but my ex in-laws were golden domers. My ex brother in-law must be polishing his chandelier!! Dude was a sycophant. Don't think he owned a piece of clothing that didn't have ND, a clover leaf or a leprechaun on it!
I guess we have to trust in the coaching staff as not much we can do about it, but to me it just seems like they are getting B list commits out of the portal!
I wonder what the ratings will be for the game - dismal, I assume. My ideal scenario is they both lose. Barring that, I hope ND smokes Ohio.
I would rather have OSU win then ND...gives BIG 10 more respect....other than that hate both teams!!
I dunno! Can't tell you how big the Buckeye fan base is, but for such a relatively small university, ND has a huge fan base. Not sure what the equivalent is of a Walmart Wolverine or Sav-a-lot Spartard, but ND has a lot of fans that are not alums.
You want Ohio to win bc you're a bucknut
as much as my ex brother in-law annoyed me, I'm going with the lessor of 2 evils: go irish...😒
Go Irish!!!
My hatred of Notre Dame knows no bounds .... "Go Bucks" .... Michigan man is right > more prestige for Big 10! Don't hate me because I am beautiful! (like that 80's commercial.
No shade. My ex in-laws were obnoxious, but they weren't violent. I've heard stories, and have had personal experiences with Buckeye fans. They are animals! I'm making my decision based purely on the fanbases....go irish....🤢
You all know my feelings on Alex Orji, he's not a QB, but best of luck. Not sure what he's looking for, but I hope he finds it. As far as Dan Mullen having a plan? Not so sure about that!
Go Irish!
What???? When did that happen?
My rivalry order, MSU, ND, then OSU. I have this feeling that other than the fan bases folks interest in this drawn out playoff system is starting to wane... Go to eight games, I'd rather see it at four but 12 is ridiculous... imo...
Never root for the bucknuts
I know where you're coming from chowman .... close neighbors in 70's went to a bar/pub in Columbus after a game there. They had a Michigan bumper sticker on car. Net result was finding a concrete block that someone smashed their front windshield with when they tried to leave.. I do believe Michigan is more of a pure college town atmosphere, whereas Columbus is a large Metro area .... but still no excuse. I lost touch as when this happened, but late 70's early 80's the Ohio State students went on a destructive attack after a game. From the Midas Muffler we were building in Worthington, the students found the bricks and took a bunch of them for ammunition.
Ron, I've had civil discourse with both ND and MSU fans. Have and had co-workers that were fans of both programs, and when we played them there was some good natured jawing and after the game there was the natural gloating. That's being said, I don't know what's worse: a Bucknut fan after a win or a loss. I think after a win as they'll never shut up and will gloat and get right in your face. At least when they lose, they tend to fade away quickly.
