Nebraska Post Game: Great Plays and Terrible Plays

Wolverines Wire Isaiah Hole

I asked Biff in my preview to run the ball, let Bryce make plays, and dominate on defense. Michigan sort of did all 3 things outside a few really bad mistakes by the secondary that could have sent Michigan into the bye week with a loss in Lincoln.

This was one of those games where the high's were really high like when Justice, Jordan, or Bryce are in the open field and the Low's were really Low when Michigan is heading to the locker room and Nebraska is throwing a Hail Mary for 7 points.

This is a game where you don't even stop in the locker room to take a shower, you get right on the bus and head to the plane, before someone changes their mind on the outcome.  This game was perfect example of why we do Cheers and Jeers.

Cheers:
  • Michigan ran for 290 yards
  • Justice might be one of the best players in America
  • Welcome back Z, great kicks!
  • 7 Sacks and probably missed 5 more
  • Sanders is playing great for a Freshman
  • Cole Sullivan is a future superstar
  • Best game by the offensive line this year!
  • Chip did a nice job calling plays
  • Wink's defense scheme was strong
  • Big goal line stop on the 1st Nebraska drive
  • Great seeing Rod Moore back!
Jeers:
  • Bone head mistakes by the secondary almost cost Michigan the game
    • Blown coverage on the 1st Nebraska TD
    • Hail Mary to end the half
    • Hillman's taunting penalty was horrific and changed momentum
    • Last drive 3rd and 22 and give up 21 yards
  • WR's CATCH THE DAMN BALL!
    • Semaj had 2 drops
    • Goodwin had 2 drops
    • Semaj under throws a TD on a wide open receiver
    • McCulley needs more targets
    • Klein needs more targets
    • Semaj did have a really good catch and run for a 1st down on Michigan's last field goal drive to go up 10 points.
  • Bryce did have a fumble
  • Officiating was not bad, but I thought Michigan's DE's were being held
    • I also thought McCulley's sideline catch was a catch
  • Hollenbeck's first punt was terrible but he did average 41 yards per punt
  • Michigan gift wrapped probably 17 points for Nebraska
  • 21 players on the injury report. WTF?
With all those mistakes, Michigan was the better team and beat a hungry Nebraska program on the road.  Biff did his job and delivered 2 wins to Sherrone while he was pacing at his house.  Now Michigan has a week off to heal.  The Michigan coaches need to rethink how they are practicing as the injury report is way too long.

Seeing the young guys play on defense is really great to see. They just need to clean up a few things that are fixable.  This team has talent and can make a run.  It was great seeing a Michigan pass rush be so effective all day.  The offense needs to catch the ball and continue to improve on the offensive line. Getting healthy will also help!  Rest up and enjoy the Ryder Cup next weekend and watch the great college games!  (great timing for a bye week)

McCulley's sideline catch def seemed like a catch. They kept saying “toes is on white”, and I’m scrambling for binoculars!

This is a young team. It’s a super high ceiling. But man are they going to increase my gray hairs.

Great, satisfying win on the road vs a 3-0 team. Is the injuries just bad luck or improper conditioning? {{Or both}. With this "NIL" stuff and as Bob said the teams are professional teams > I am losing my grip on caring who wins. Those of you that can navigate thru this "money ball" .... your more of a man than me. Nick Saban spoke last week about a possible money gap problem between the SEC and Big Ten > that the Big Ten has a wealthier alumni than SEC. And I am supposed to love the game when it USED TO BE based on pride? Never!

General question to all > Roster size used to be limited by 85 scholarship limits (sort of) .... then you had walk-ons. Now with NIL: can you have a roster of 150 players? I do not see any way to police this issue, unless I am getting senile with age.

Just noticed Michigan does not play Oregon, Penn State nor Indiana .... we lucked out (my opinion). Only game in doubt (possible) is Ohio State. Apologize for all the posts, I know you had enough when you tell me it's time to go back to Dubai ...

If the taunting penalty was after the play then why was NB given a first down. Penalty should have been to where M caught the punt and still M ball.

Cheers: Nice conference road win, Nebraska's rush defense blows, pass rush can be dominant.

Jeers: there's nobody better the Goodwin? my God he drops about 2 out of 3 passes.

Biff should of called a time out at the end of the 1st half. that might of swayed Ruhle for throwing the Hail Mary. 23 seconds is different than 1.

Come on Wink that Hail Mary defense was horrible. stop with the exotic rush packages and drop 8 in covers no closer than your own 5 yard line.

Hillman should of been bench for at least a few plays after that taunting penalty. Look I'd bitch if Sullivan would of done that, but at least he made the effing play. What did Hillman do on that play to go hoot about? Act like you played the game before man. Winning on the road is tough, don't be beating yourself.

Without the Hail Mary and Hillman being a bone head, we don't need Marshall to make a run on the last drive. I hate players that run their mouths. Barry Sanders was my all time favorite player cause he played with class.

Nessler and Danielson were practically touching each other they were so giddy hoping the ruling on the field was upheld and btw, the only official I saw ruled it a catch, so how was it ruled incomplete on the field?

Think its 120, with no walk ons

very well could be 10-1 when we play OSU. now, that's barring injuries and Bryce just having a turd freshman game of course.

Regardless, that can't happen. Coaching did there best to lose this game. Biff should of called a time out at the end of the half. Ruhle would have most likely punted instead. Wink needed to drop everybody in coverage. in the NFL, many DCs would of dropped 8 or 9, mini me Mahomes wasn't going to run it in from mid field. and Hillman should of been brought to the sideline for at least a few plays to send a message, enough with the bullshit. Just play the damn game. you what the best taunt in the world is? the scoreboard.

I agree with those that say Hillman should have been benched at least for a few plays. I think that he should be benched for the next game. His behavior was uncalled for and inexcusable.

Scott, you are overlooking the fact that the players deserve to be paid. They have generated billions for the NCAA. Some players never get their due like Zac Zinter, who is still struggling to overcome his injury. Remember, its not the schools or the NCAA that wanted to be paid, it was the players. And deservedly so.

Slimeball schools no longer have the advantage of paying their players illegally. (Ohio St, Clemson, Alabama). It is no coincidence those programs are all struggling now. Bryce, a lifelong Michigan fan, wouldn't be here right now without NIL.

You're listening too much to the whining of loser bottom dwelling programs like Michigan State that want to blame NIL for their losing, when in fact they've always been a losing program. Sparty slappy Valenti is constantly crying because his Spartans can't pay their players under the table like they did in the 80's and 90's. Pat Caputo, when he was a MSU beat writer, asked a MSU football player, "Why did you pick State?" The player told him, "Cuz they paid me to come here."

I agree Michigan defensive ends were being held. Not one holding penalty against the Nebraska offensive line.. the game should have been as close as it was. If semaji Morgan had hit McCauley for the touchdown.. the hail Mary.. and the taunting penalty that gave Nebraska three points.. yes I thought the catch was good
