Where is my recruiting update?

Sorry it's late but not a lot going on right now. We are still waiting for commitment announcements from Texas Athlete/WR Terrance Robinson and South Carolina DB JT Floyd, both are expected anytime. Jaron Brown, WR from SC is expected to announce at his HS at a 2:00 press conference on Thursday (Michigan, Clemson, SC).

Update: Pryor may push back his decision date and not announce on 2/6. This could be bad for our other 2 QB recruits Daniels and Feagins.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer says Pryor's QB coach's gut feel is that TP will be a Buckeye:

"A lot of things are telling me Ohio State," Hall said. "That's my gut feeling. In San Antonio, I was there and everyone he chose to hang out with were the kids from Ohio State and their parents."

This article also points to a possible recruiting violation:

One other factor in Hall's gut feeling was the presence of several Ohio State recruits, including linemen Michael Brewster and J.B. Shugarts, who are already enrolled at Ohio State, at Pryor's basketball game last Saturday.

13.02.5 Enrolled Student-Athlete. An enrolled student-athlete is an individual whose enrollment was solicited by a member of the athletics staff or other representative of athletics interests with a view toward the student’s ultimate participation in the intercollegiate athletics program. Any other student becomes a student athlete only when the student reports for an intercollegiate squad that is under the jurisdiction of the athletics department.

13.02.5.1 Permissible Recruitment Activities for Enrolled Student-Athletes.(a) Off-campus contacts. Off-campus, in-person recruiting contacts that are unavoidable incidental contacts between enrolled student-athletes (or other enrolled students) and a prospective student-athlete are permissible if such contacts do not occur at the direction of a coaching staff member

The Vest and RR both plan on one more visit to the Nation's Top Recruit before Monday.

I hear there is at least 10 players coming in this weekend for the last visit before 2/6. I will publish that list as soon as it's available.

Here is a good ESPN article on the inside scoop of what happened between RR and WVU.

Hey, Big House Bob - I wouldn't want your readers to get the wrong impression that there were any obvious recruiting violations commited last week by the "Brew Crew".

Here are 4 bylaws Buckeye fans are posting concerning impermissible contact between student-athletes (enrolled at a university) and a prospective recruit. I think it's interesting that UM fans quote different rules than OSU fans.

(a) Recruitment expenses. An institution may not provide an enrolled student-athlete with transportation or expenses to recruit a prospective student-athlete except those expenses specified as permissible when a student-athlete serves as a student host.

(b) Telephone calls. Enrolled student-athletes or other enrolled students shall not make or participate in telephone calls to prospective student-athletes at the direction of a coaching staff member or financed by the institution or a representative of its athletics interests.

(c) Transportation. A student-athlete acting as a student host shall not be provided an automobile by the institution or representatives of its athletics interests for use by the host or the prospective student-athlete during a prospective student-athlete's official visit to the campus.

(d) Student host. A student-athlete serving as a student host must be enrolled in the member institution being visited by the prospective student-athlete. A nonqualifier (see Bylaw 14.02.9) may not serve as a student host during his or her first academic year of residence.

There was additional mention about how the rules don't apply to kids that knew each other as freinds before one enrolled in college. Have you heard of that clause being legit anywhere?

Anyway.....wich one of these rules prevents the "Brew Crew" from driving 3+ hours to visit their good buddy TP? I think its pretty clear that the only contact the NCAA prohibits is if they were doing so at the coach's direction. Do you have any sources that can prove that they were directed in such a manner?

Here's my take. The story about alleged contact between OSU coaches and PA businessmen has not really gained any momentum. I don't know what (if anything) happened but I would have guessed that new details one way or the other would have been presented by now. Additionally, I'm pretty sure nobody from OSU (coaches, players, boosters, etc) would be so stupid as to break an obvious rule by going to that game. I'm guessing that nothing will come of any of this either (even if there are multiple ways to interpret the rules).

On another note......I read earlier today that TP may not sign with anyone next Wednesday. LIke I said in out debate the other day. I'm getting a little tired of the TP saga.

Where there is smoke there is fire and there seems to be a lot of smoke around Pryor.

Well.....I wouldn't say there is "a lot" of smoke around our favorite recruiting target. I would call it "a little" smoke. Can we agree that the entire process from both the UM and OSU perspective is getting a little old?

Yes, I would agree there is way too much focus on TP. There is news everyday on him doing something or not doing something.

My point on the Brew Crew's 3-4 hour trip to watch his Basketball game, is that they shouldn't be putting OSU in that position to look bad. (If it's a borderline violation why go?) Use better judgment then that! If they don't go it's never an issue. Stay in CBus and study.

It's stupid to put their college in jeopardy like that.
