Michigan's QB Depth Chart 2009 - Remember when Michigan had a QB problem?

It only seemed like weeks ago Michigan had serious holes at the QB position? Well, your right and it was. Many of us wondered how a program that has put so many QB's in the NFL could be out of quality QB's so quickly. Well, things have changed and changed quickly for the Wolverines at quarterback starting in 2009. Let's take a look at a possible depth chart at QB for the 2009 Season.

Flash Forward: QB Depth Chart Fall 2009:
Probable Starter: Steven Threet. He will have a year under his belt running "The West Rod Offense". This spot all depends how he preforms in the 2008 season, but if he does well he will be looking good for this role in 2009.

Co-starter: Justin Feagins, will get some snaps and might fill a "Tim Tebow" role as a Freshmen QB in 2008 (who as of right now hasn't stepped on campus yet). It will depend on how quickly he picks up the play book and whether or not he is a true D1 QB or not.

First Backup: Kevin Newsome. Reports are that Kevin is considering graduating early and heading up to A2 around Bowl preparation time. Having Bowl Prep and Spring Ball will give Kevin a real shot at starting if Threet and Feagins have a poor 2008 campaign. Look for this 5 star QB to make a huge push for the starting spot in 2009.

Second backup: Shavodrick Beaver. If this is how the depth chart falls, look for "the Beaver" to get red-shirted as a Freshmen. There is no reason to waste a year of eligibility on a guy that is 4th on the depth chart and has a high upside. Remember Newsome could have a 7-8 month advantage on him in the system and with Barwis.

Cut or changed positions: Nick Sheridan and David Cone. Nick has been said to be close to getting the starting job this year. I believe Feagins will be more athletic and drop him down to 3rd on the depth chart in 2008. With these high profile guys coming in he should look for a position change or just ride out his time as a Wolverine. David doesn't have much shot at playing this year or ever.

Potential QB's still in the mix: Oklahoma Transfer and former Michigan HS standout Keith Nichol is looking for a new school and many believe Michigan is the proper destination. An Oklahoma blog even suggests it. At one time Keith was a Michigan State commit and then changed his mind after John L. was shown the door. He is known as a dual threat guy with allot of athleticism, but with the possible depth chart above, where would he fit? He also couldn't really break through in Oklahoma, so I'm not sure Michigan is ready to use a spot on him at this point. If he had only transferred a month earlier!

One of the "paid" recruiting services are saying that Tate Forcier is still considering coming to Michigan. He has a bunch of good offers from very high profile schools and he is still considering Michigan. As you know Tate's brother was a QB at Michigan before he transferred to Stanford last year. I would be very surprised if Tate came in and wanted to compete against Threet, Newsome, Feagins, and Beaver. But he might!

The QB situation for the near future could be a little scary as these kids get some experience, but I like the depth we have for the next 4-5 years!

Now let's go get some Defensive Ends and some 4 star Offensive Linemen!
