In yesterday's Big Ten ESPN Blog, the Spartans talk about the Michigan game being circled on the calendar. We also know about the count down clocks, Dantonio post game melt downs and Mike Hart height blasts.
All the time," linebacker Adam Decker said when asked how much the players discuss Michigan. "Coach Dantonio came in here and made that game a point of emphasis. As a player, that's great because I'm from the state of Michigan [Rochester Hills]. As a Michigan State player, you want to beat Michigan. It's emphasized every day.
"I do not want to go through my whole college career without beating my rival school," senior running back Javon Ringer said. "That would be embarrassing."
Sparty it's great that you are focusing on the game that will be played on 10/25 but you have 8 games to play before your trip to Ann Arbor. Some of those teams are named; CAL, Ohio State,(Florida Atlantic is no push over either - they won a bowl game last year) and Notre Dame. I know you have played ND as well as anyone over the last 10 years or so but CAL is an opening day road trip and we all know how teams from Michigan play in the state of California.
So yes Sparty, Michigan has a new coach and implementing a new offensive system and nobody is picking Michigan in the top 3 of the Big Ten but play your first 8 games before you start talking about the Michigan game. If your 8-0 you will have plenty time to talk the week of 10/20. The ESPN post even states the Spartan's aren't looking past CAL, but after hearing these quotes you make the call:
"It's imbedded in our minds and our memories," Wiley said. "We were close last year, been close in all of our encounters. We need to be on top this year. We have the people and we have the talent to do that."It's our top priority right now. We want that one, and we want it bad."
Here are a few thoughts to think about until then:
- Michigan leads all-time 67-28-5
- Michigan State has lost six straight in the series
- Michigan State is Michigan's 3rd football rival behind OSU and ND
