Coach Rod's Press Conference News and Notes

  • "We didn't execute well. We made a lot of mistakes in key times, key areas and big mistakes on lots of big plays on both sides of the ball, and I thought we played a little soft. That was the most disappointing part about it"
  • "It's just about being more aggressive. You think, 'Well they're not being aggressive because they're thinking'. Well, okay, that's an excuse for a little while, but we're five games into it. Y'all know what you're doing."As coaches, we've got to do a better job. If thinking is part of the equation, we've got to eliminate that thinking as coaches and do a better job coaching."
  • What did you think of Steven Threet's play after seeing the film?... "He played okay at times and other times he didn't. He competed. He's a tough guy and he competed, but he didn't make great decisions sometimes. Sometimes he did some nice stuff, so it was a little inconsistent, but he's battling."
  • Injuries: Odoms has a little bit of a sprained shoulder, Dorrestein got dinged in the head - both should be ok for this weekend. Carlos Brown is still out, and (Junior) Hemingway is obviously out with mono. Austin Panter hurt his shoulder a little bit. Looks like Terrence Robinson is still banged up and most likely will red shirt if he isn't healthy enough to play this weekend. Donavon Warren has: It's a little bit of an ankle, but he's bothered a little bit by the quad muscles, the bruise. Those things take time. That's why he'll be better this week than last week.
  • When asked about if Darryl Stonum will play this weekend: "Yet to be determined. I haven't decided that yet." My man must have broken some team rules.
  • "Yeah, Kevin's (Koger) playing well. He's playing better than any tight end and that's why he's starting. He's a smart guy. ---- Come on Massey and Butler! I know the kid is good but he is taking your time as an upperclassmen, I had hoped you guys would be playing more.
  • Are problems not going to be solved this year due to talent?... "Yeah, we've got to be a faster football team.
  • What has Ryan Van Bergen given you on defense?... "Ryan has been very solid. You'll probably see him play more and more, particularly with the injury situation, but Ryan has been a very solid player.
  • "As disappointed as I am in things, (we're) five games in, so it's not the time to panic. It's time to get better."
