Michigan Football Thursday News and Notes

  • Marell Evans leaves the Michigan program with class: "Me and coach Rod are on good terms," linebacker Marell Evans told the Free Press tonight. "It was more than playing time or academics or anything like that. It was a lot of things. Coach Rod is a great coach and I wish him plenty of success. I wanted to finish my career a different way." - - "He's a great man and I respect the man," said Evans, a junior from Richmond, Va. "He wanted me to think about this decision and said I'm a big part of the program. But I respectfully wanted to leave the program." Evans a junior was most likely a back up linebacker this year and hasn't decided yet which program he is going to transfer to.

  • FB/DE Vince Helmuth has also decided to leave the program. Vince recently moved positions from full back to defensive end. Rodriguez said today that Evans and defensive lineman Vince Helmuth both asked to transfer and cited playing time as the primary reason why, calling them both good kids. Some believe Vince may end up at Eastern to play for Ron English, Michigan's former DC.

  • Florida offensive lineman Torrian Wilson has Michigan in his top 3.

  • Cincinnati TE Alex Smith is still considering Michigan after de-committing to the University of Cincinnati.

  • Freshman slot WR/RB Teric Jones has moved to cornerback for depth reasons. I'm guessing this is not a good sign for Adrian Witty becoming a Wolverine this year.

  • Looks like the Alamo Bowl is replacing the Big Ten with the Pac Ten.

  • Notes from Practice: Minor is out with a "minor" headache, RR expects to hear something about Jason Forcier either today or Friday and it seems Adrian Witty is still waiting on a test score (ACT?) before he can practice.
