BHB's Friday: 5 and Out

  • How about them Wolverines? The Men's basketball team put up 16 points in the first half and went 0-14 in 3's before storming back in the second half to beat Penn State. A win is a win.

  • Package Deal? RR likes to recruit high school teammates. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. A current Package from Florida lost one of it's members yesterday as DE Clarence Murphy decided to commit to Maryland. That leaves CB Tony Grimes potential commitment to Michigan up in the air. Both were going to decide on signing day but it seems Clarence jumped the gun for some reason.

  • What to Watch? Unless there is a surprise, Michigan isn't supposed to get any announcements at this weekends Army All American Game. Still, Michigan fans will want to tune it to check out highly rated CB Cullen Christian, Punter Will Hagerup, and potential recruit Safety Sean Parker.

  • Ryan Mallett has decided to stay in school and not go to the NFL. Ryan deciding to stay somewhere is always big news.

  • South Florida's Jim Leavitt was shown the door this morning. I'm sure there won't be any tears shed at Schembechler Hall since Jim and Rich never seemed to get along. Rich took a number of assistants from South Florida (Rod Smith, Calvin Magee, and Greg Frey) over his tenure. One of those guys maybe a candidate for the head coaching job at USF. That guy would be, Michigan's OC Calvin Magee. That would be a big loss for Michigan but a great opportunity for Calvin.

To me, loosing a potential commit is never a good thing, however, if you know that a candidate is going elsewhere in enough time, e.g., Hankins, Murphy, et al, then you can make adjustments in your recruiting. Where the problem comes in is when they bail out on you on signing day. So RR needs to know where Grimes' head is now.
