Breaking News: It's the Hoke Pokey Will He Turn The Program Around?

Michigan Hires a New Coach:

Jan. 11, 2011

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon announced today (Tuesday, Jan. 11) the hiring of Brady Hoke as the 19th coach in the 131-year history of Michigan football. Hoke arrives in Ann Arbor after spending the past eight seasons as a head coach at Ball State (2003-08) and San Diego State (2009-10).

"We are pleased to announce the hiring of Brady," said Brandon. "He is a terrific coach and will be a great ambassador and leader for our football program. We look forward to having him build a championship program on the field and in the classroom."

Hoke spent eight seasons in Ann Arbor before embarking on his head coaching career. He mentored the Wolverines defensive line all eight seasons, a group that helped Michigan rank annually among the nation's best in rushing and total defense. Hoke coached three linemen to All-America honors during his tenure -- William Carr (1996), Glen Steele (1997) and Rob Renes (1999) -- and had five players earn first-team All-Big Ten accolades.

I don't have words to express where I am with this.  My beloved program is not what it used to be and is not what it should be.   I will support this hire but certainly won't celebrate it.   I'm speechless.

Darn. This is the worst case scenario. We can only hope he turns out to be a gene chizik. Worst case, we're Notre dame since 1990.

Well, at least the worst 3 year stretch of Michigan football is behind us. No matter how much we struggle initially there is little chance we'll go 3-9, 5-7, & 7-6 again.

Despite internal friction over the hiring of RichRod, it was at the time considered a great hire by ESPN and many prominent "pundits" out there. He was one of the hottest names, turning down Alabama before. I can still remember analysts talking about how RichRod would dominate Ohio State and the B10.

Gene Chizik and Pete Carroll were both considered failures. I don't know much about Carroll other than the fact the he was the 5th or 6th candidate for USC b/c he failed twice in the NFL. Chizik went 5-19 at Iowa State!!!!!! I remember ESPN footages of fans booing Chizik at his intro press conference. (lets hope that doesn't happen here) Ohh and Tressel, I'm pretty sure Ohio State fans weren't really excited about him either.

Nonetheless, I'm pretty upset about this. But I'm trying to convince myself that I have to give myself the chance to be optimistic.

Thank you. Optimisim is the key. Alow him some wiggle room before we squeeze him.

It's another transition year. Also, we need to make a play for DC who can run the 4-3 successfully!!! I'm convinced the 3-3-5 does not work in the B10.

I wonder if Scott Loeffler will be available for the offense?
