Wolverine Wednesday: Checks the Recruiting Calendar

Just looking up at the calendar today, it says it's February 8th, 2012.   Signing day for the 2012 class was just a week ago and Michigan signed a top 5 class in the country.   Time for a family vacation for the coaches right?  Nope.

The Michigan coaches are all over the class of 2013, right now.   They are sending out offers right now like a mom gives out Halloween candy.   Is this a change in approach?  Yes and No.  Michigan was very particular on who they offered in the 2012 class, they filled up the boat up fast and struggled near signing day.   Looking back now, an argument could be made that they didn't have enough offers on the street to land the type of players they wanted.   On the other hand, they signed a top 5 class.

Offering kids for the next recruiting class right now is very common.  RR and staff at times would have over a 100+ offers on the street.   I don't think Hoke and Staff will throw that many offers out but it is clear they want to offer a number of kids this year and then widdle it down as kids commit to be Wolverines.   Michigan is off to a great start with a 5 star QB, 4 star DB and a instate TE already committed.  I expect Michigan will have around 20 players to sign in this class.

Needs for the 2013 class?

  1. Running Back.  Michigan wants a couple of big backs in this class. Look for them to sign 2.
  2. Offensive line.  Michigan loses a ton to graduation next year.   They will need probably 5 players on the Oline in this class.
  3. WR - Michigan probably needs at least 3 in this class.  With a 5 star QB actively recruiting, this should be an easy task.
  4. TE. Have one, probably need one more.
  5. CB/S.  I estimate 2-3 in this class.  Thomas probably projects more towards safety at this point.
  6. LB's.  In Mattison's defense it's hard to predict which guys are LB's or just rushing DE's.  I think Michigan wants at least 2 of each.
  7. DE's: 2 see #6.
  8. DT: 1 Pipkins like guy

That is what I would predict for needs for this class.   Let's hope attrition stays low and Michigan can develop talent while at the same time playing the upper classman.   I suspect Michigan will be very picky in the RB's that they look at and offer.   In fact, the top prospects right now are clearly Ty Isaac and Wyatt Shallman from CC in Novi.  If those 2 guys Go Blue, they are done at RB in 2013.

Michigan right now is in great shape for Ohio TE Jake Butt who is 6'6 and 230.  Jake has a ton of offers right now and has the Wolverines #1.    Look for Jake to be a solid 4 star guy when the ratings come out.

Cass Tech has some good talent again this year and look for two names:  David Dawson on the Oline (no offer yet) and CB Jourdan Lewis to be the headliners.

Jaron Dukes a 6'3 195 pound WR from Columbus, OH is visiting Ann Arbor this weekend.  Laquon Treadwell a WR Michigan has been recruiting for about 6 months will also take another visit.  This will be visit number 2 or 3 for him to Ann Arbor.

There are many more offers on the street right now and I will keep you updated on the guys who might be close to committing or visiting A2.

Sounds good to me. I hope we can pickup another QB also. What year is Laquon? Where is he from? Can Shane help with this one, I'm sure he's already all over him.

Laquon is a JR. teammate of former commit Anthony Standifer from IL. Laquan has always been high on Michigan but has now become a big time recruit. So we will see what happends.
