Wolverine Wednesday: Who Should Wear #48

Michigan hosts the 2-4 Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday afternoon.   Ron Zook is gone and former Toledo head man Tim Beckman has the job.  Tim has a bad habit if you missed it from this weekend:

Yes he enjoys a dip on the sideline.  The only problem is using tobacco during games or practices against NCAA rules and Illinois had to file a minor infraction with the NCAA.   Well done Tim.  Charlie Weis new Kansas head coach has asked the NCAA if having a chef carving prime rib on the sideline is ok?

Back to the Fighting Illini, their wins have come against Western Michigan and Charleston Southern (which sort of sounds like chewing tobacco).  Michigan is a 23.5 favorite in this one.   This won't be a close game.   So what are some of the big decisions for the Michigan coaches this weekend?

The biggest might be, who is going to wear former President's Gerald Ford's retired #48 jersey?
This week a well deserved Wolverine will get to wear #48 with the Legends patch on it.

So let's start the speculation on who could really wear a former President's jersey:

  • How about back up QB Jack Kennedy?
  • Backup RB "Justice" Hayes
  • Freshman LB James Ross III has a very Presidential name
  • Freshman S Jarrod "Woodrow" Wilson?
  • DL Quinton Washington "DC"
  • Freshman RB Drake "Lyndon B" Johnson
  • TE Nate Allspach is from President Ford's home town of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

My pick is starting Safety Jordan Kovacs, this would be a great honor for the former walk-on.
