Michigan Tuesday: Big Day 12-14-12

The most important day in any recruiting class is signing day.  That night the coaches can sleep well knowing the kids that they recruited and committed signed their name and faxed it to Schembechler Hall.

For Hoke and staff they don't like waiting until signing day to know what their class is going to look like.   For the 2013 class, Michigan had most of the class filled this past summer.   What's left is 3 spots in the entire class and December 14th might be the day the Wolverines fill the last few spots.

Why is December 14th so important?

Michigan most likely will be holding a live bowl practice in their new indoor practice facility and a majority of the 22 commits will be doing their official visit (paid) to Ann Arbor.

Ok, I get you still have to recruit your committed players, but why is that so important for the last 3 spots?

With Bowl Practice and Recruiting Quiet Period (around the holidays) this is the most important weekend for un-committed recruits to visit Ann Arbor.  Look who is planning on making  the trip:

Back in Blue?:  Gareon Conley and David Dawson are planning on being in A2 on the 14th.  Reports are that it's between OSU and Michigan for Conley and that David might be leaning towards re-committing to Michigan after his talk with Coach Hoke last week.  I would also imagine Coach wouldn't re-recruit David if he didn't know how it would turn out.

More Blocking:    If David doesn't jump on his offer there are plenty of guys that will be in town that could.   Including 4 stars recruits:  Cameron Hunt, Kenny Lacy and Na'ty Rodgers.    The consensus is that Hunt is the closest to being ready to commit.  Currently he is a commit to Cal who is yet to hire a new head coach.  Rodgers does not have an offer yet but it's clear he wants one.   Lacy might be hard to pull from UCLA.

What up Leon?:  5 star Leon McQuay III has been clear that he will announce his decision at the UA game in January but is planning on enrolling early at his school of choice.   FSU lost their DC to Kentucky's head coach and Lane Kiffin just fired his dad.  That leaves Vandy and Michigan.  Both have good music schools and one is a football power.  If he is going to enroll early he will have to get his paperwork in during December, so the coaches will know before he makes his decision public.

Don't hold your breath on Laquon!  Michigan seems to get involved with a WR like this every year.  He doesn't have Michigan in his top 3 now but is still trying to make it out to Ann Arbor again for an official visit.  He might do it on the 14th, he might not.  There might not be a spot left.

Back up plans:  Names that might get offered if guys drop out:

  • OH CB Reon Dawson: From Trotwood Madison in Ohio
  • FL S James Crawford: Related to Charles Woodson
  • OH RB Godwin Igwebuike: NW commit visited for a game at the Big House
  • NC LB Jamieon Moss: Committed to VaTech could visit on the 14th
  • AL CB Marquis McCullum:  No offer yet but talking
  • OH CB Jaleel Hytchye: Been to A2 a couple times
A live practice, a ton of commits on campus, plus a high number of prospects = a busy weekend for the Michigan Football Program.
