One of the things that RR brought to Michigan that Brady Hoke kept was a summer invitation only event called "The BBQ at the Big House". This is July recruiting event (usually right before Fall Camp starts) where Michigan invites commits, 2014 and 2015 recruits considering Michigan.
This event allows recruits and recruits families to be with the coaches and coaches family in a relaxed environment. So no NCAA rules are broken, Michigan charges the recruits and recruits family a small entrance fee to cover the cost of the food, etc.
In prior years, we have seen a number of commitments drop during or immediately after the event. This year Michigan has some top guys coming, who could be part of Michigan's top ranked recruiting class. The two headliners will be Artavis Scott a top ranked WR out of Florida and Adoree' Jackson a 5 star DB from Florida.
Both of these guys were considered "long shots" until recently when Michigan really started to recruit both players very strongly. Scott is of course teammates with current commit Mason Cole and 2015 target WR George Campbell (he will be at the BBQ as well!). Trey would be the perfect compliant to Drake Harris and Moe Ways and the final WR in this class.
Adoree' Jackson is originally from Illinois and will be spending some time in his former home state in July and is planning to make it up to Ann Arbor for a visit and the BBQ. He is looking to visit ND, Illinois, Michigan and Tennessee while he is back home.
If Michigan could land both Adoree' and Artavis that would be another big step in landing the top class in 2014!
- Michigan seems to be looking to add one more LB to the 2014 class. Noah Furbush a 2014 LB visited Ann Arbor yesterday. He is ranked as a 3 star LB by Scouts and does have a offer from Michigan. Is it a committable one? With him visiting, seems like it still is.
- It seems OSU doesn't like when recruits no longer consider The Buckeyes. There were recent accounts of both Chase Winovich and DaShawn Hand that OSU really isn't interested in any longer when they found out neither were going to be a Buckeye. Here is another account from KC McDermott saying "no thanks" to Urban Meyer: AK: What's the Urban Meyer story?
KM: The Urban Meyer thing was just funny to me. He came to my school a week after I told his assistant that I wasn't even interested in them. I told him no to his face, and it's got to be one of the top five reactions of someone ever. His facial expression was just so funny. My coach was tearing up and had to go in his office to laugh.
AK: Talk more about coach Meyer's face when you told him no. Was he mad, upset?
KM: More like the state of shock where the guy has literally never been told no in his life. It literally looked like a kid the first time you tell him 'no, you can't do something.' It looked like he was a baby about to cry. It was so funny

I'm afraid all this talk from Hand is setting up Blue Nation for a Jake Fischer/Josh Garnett let down. Fisher not so much, but Garnett talked about Michigan like his descision was already made... then when the time comes, picks Stanford....
