Michigan Monday: You In or Out Bro?

If you have been following the coaching news over the weekend it as been one wild ride.   Michigan could have up to 3 defensive coordinators and Kentucky's best recruiter or not.

Michigan could have landed Stanford's well known S&C guy or not.

First lets go with Vince Marrow the TE coach and well known recruiter for UK.  He met with Jimmy on Friday or Saturday and was offered the TE job.   Rumors are that Vince reached out to Jimmy rather then the other way around, so Michigan was pretty confident he would be coming to Ann Arbor.  He even started following Chris Clark, the #1 TE in the county and Michigan target.

Then this tweet came out:

Matt Jones @KySportsRadio:

BREAKING: Source tells KSR that Vince Marrow will return to Kentucky. Deal to be announced tomorrow
I have more confirmation here that Shannon Turley is indeed staying at Stanford and not going to Michigan… What a rollercoaster afternoon

Michigan seemed in great shape at DC with Greg Mattison staying on staff and the soon to be announced a winning bowl head coach DJ Durkin and former Florida DC coming to Ann Arbor.  In fact there were reports by Sam Webb that DJ was in Ann Arbor on Sunday.

Jim Harbaugh is pushing to land DC Lance Anderson at , per source. Anderson has been invaluable in building that program.

Jimmy wants 3 DC's?

Am told Jim Harbaugh's pursuit of Lance Anderson is in line with him hoping to land LA & D.J. Durkin & retain Mattison at

Why would Michigan need 3 DC's?  I have no idea and really wondering if Jimmy can pull that off.  It could be a sign that Mattison is a one and done and ready to retire but I'm not sure why you leave Stanford to become a co-DC at Michigan unless coaching under Harbaugh is that much of a career jump.   I don't know if it's going to happen but I like it.

Update: It's being reported that Anderson is staying at Stanford. 9:30 AM.

Not surprised by the Marrow and Turley change of heart.  They are both very important to their respective schools.  I'm sure they also got a huge pay increase because of them planning to head to Ann Arbor.

So where we at Bob on Jimmy's staff right now?

You guys always ask really good questions.   Here is my take:

Drevno = OC
Morton = WR
RB?
Drevno = OL
TE?

Dukin = co-DC
Anderson = co DC
Anderson = DL
Mattison = LB and Assistant Head Coach
Manning = OLB/DE
Greg Jackson = CB/Saftey

As you know this can change in a heart beat and I'm not a 100% convinced that Anderson is coming to Ann Arbor either.  Someone call Ty Wheatley!

  • Malzone and Cole are enrolled as Michigan students.  They are officially off the board for the 2015 class.
  • Chris Clark is planning at Michigan official visit for 1/15.

It's not at all surprising that some of these asst coaches use the M connection to increase their value to their current school. Same thing as what head coaches do.

You mean like what Les Miles has been doing for the last 2 changes.

Out of all that news, I'm probably MOST disappointed that Turley isn't coming.

Circus Circus....

The media, as it relates to the hiring process for Michigan football coaches, is about as accurate and reliable as a weatherman, a chief market analyst or the Mayan calendar's end of the world prediction.

Jim Harbaugh was seen talking to Juney Barnett on the sidelines of the playoff game, so I'm pretty sure he was trying to steal him away from his brother's team, to be the new S & C coach at Michigan... LOL

It appears Drevno, Durkin and Morton can be considered part of the family.....
