Michigan Tuesday: Plenty of Things Going on

Staff Updates:

  • Tim Drevno and DJ Durkin both have emails now in the Michigan system which would lead you to believe they are now on staff but not announced yet.   Which is good since that firms up both the OC and DC.

  • There are starting to be some reports and rumors that Ty Wheatley will be in A2 this week to talk to Jimmy about being the RB's coach.  He was looking for a title increase but that was when he had a solid job with the Bills.   It will be interesting to see what Jr. does if Ty joins the staff.  He currently doesn't have Michigan in his top 4.   New Update: Wheat is in town today to interview with Jimmy!

  • Bruce Feldman reports that Jimmy is considering Jimmie Dougherty San Jose State's OC for a spot on his staff.

  • Nothing on a new S&C guy yet.   With the players getting on campus, I would say this role needs to be filled quickly.  As the S&C guy is the only person that can work directly with the players right now.

  • Fred Jackson the longest staff member that stayed on staff from Carr to Hoke is being listed as retired on his Michigan profile.   Thank you Fred for all your years of service and enjoy your retirement!

Players

  • Wednesday is the first day Jimmy will get to meet with his players live.   I hope that meeting gives the players a ton of motivation for the off season and seasons to come.

  • Kyle Bosch who took last year off for personal reasons has decided to transfer to other school.  He is clearly dealing with a personal situation and I wish him luck at his new school and in life.  There is good depth on the Oline, so this loss won't hurt a ton for the next couple of years but they probably need to add another lineman in this class.

Recruiting

The dead period continues until 1/15, which is good news and bad news for the Wolverines.  It's good news because Michigan still has slots to fill on their staff. It's bad because Michigan still needs to create relationships with these recruits in a very short period of time.  Other coaches have been talking to these kids for a couple of years, Jim and Staff have a couple weeks.

One school that has a couple of Michigan prospects is UCLA.   Chris Clark says he is down to Michigan and UCLA.   Keisean Lucier-South is another Michigan prospect who is verbally committed and one that Jimmy has already called.   KLS says has always loved Michigan but is happy at UCLA.   Jim Mora Jr. is a candidate for the Jets and 49'ers opening and is said to be interviewing for the Jets job.   If Mora leaves, all bets are off and Michigan could really be in play for guys like KLS.   Josh Rosen the #1 player in the US, just enrolled at UCLA and is off the board.

Mike Weber will also continue to be a priority for Michigan and the coaches will see if they can get him back from OSU.   Auden Tate a FL 4 star WR who is committed to FSU, took an official to Michigan for the Maryland game when the program was pretty much on fire.   He seems very interested in Michigan with Jimmy on staff but would have to pay his own way to come to Ann Arbor since he used his official.  Another guy Michigan is interested in is 3 star Michigan athlete John Kelly who is good friends with Mike Weber.

Getting these guys on campus will be priority #1.
  • Coach is expected to be on Mike and Mike on ESPN Radio any minute. Listen here.

Bob,
Can't thank you enough for keeping all of us posted on the latest stuff. The M&M interview was pretty good. JH will do a great job and he will do it the right way.

Side note....this would have been so bad if JH didn't take the job. If Miles would have been hired...holy crap the Athletic Department would be divided again. Miles vs Carr...would have been ugly.

I had heard that Kevin Tolbert the assistant S&C guy with the 49ers was coming in today for an interview.....Any truth to this? I don't believe that you had mentioned him.

For what it's worth, Tolbert and Morton both show up in the directory with umich.edu email addresses.

Ok, is it too premature to start bouncing around names of recruits that we will be in on?

Sounds like Clark will recommit.

Others?

I'm guessing little Ty Wheatley will probably follow his dad to A2 as well...

If the 49ers or Falcons would hire Jim Mora Jr, that would be a bit help also.
