Michigan Thursday: Recruiting Heating Up

A few of us were a little concerned when recruits didn't run to Ann Arbor with their LOI in hand asking to join The SS Harbaugh after he was hired.   We as Michigan fans were so excited, we just figured that was the logical next step.   Harbaugh and staff didn't have any relationships with the 2015 class and it wasn't very practical to think they could create those relationships in just a month.

The staff did a pretty good job at filling out the 2015 class and they have done a very good job at accepting transfers to do their best to protect the 2015 season.   Now the focus has moved to the 2016 class, which Michigan was already behind in.   It's hard to believe but a few programs were pretty close to full for their 2016 class on signing day 2015.   For example, Miami has 20 2016 commits and FSU has 13.

Before the spring game, Michigan had 2.   Now Michigan stands at 6 commits with a class that only has 14 available spots right now (of course we all expect that number to end up in the area of 20).   Matt Falcon was expected to visit Tennessee later this month, he changed his mind and committed to Michigan last night.   King Davis committed earlier this week and Robert Washington was making his announcement on the 25th that could of gone Michigan's way.   Matt didn't want to risk it and grabbed his roster spot.

There are also rumors that Penn State commit and Detroit King 4 star DB Lavert Hill (brother of Delano) was on campus yesterday and might be ready to flip his commitment to Michigan.   Michigan is also in really shape with WR Des Fitzpatrick, DE Khalid Kareem, WR Donnie Corley, OT Michael Jordan, and OG/DT Michael Onwenu.   Getting all these guys would be a sweep of all the instate talent, outside of 5 star Daelin Hayes (Justice Hayes cousin) who committed to USC last year.

I would say Michigan has some really good recruiting momentum right now!

  • New QB commit Brandon Peters is expecting to graduate early and will enroll in January.  As you know, that gives Michigan some scholarship flexibility on being able to use a 2015 or 2016 scholarship on him.

Kudos to Jim for influencing a reversal of the idiotic decision to NOT show American Sniper on campus. As a combat veteran, I'm appalled that cancelling the showing was even considered.
