Michigan Thursday: News and Notes

  • Devin Funchess who opted out of NFL Season last year has been put on the IR list of the Packers due to a bad hamstring.  This means that Funchess will miss his 3rd consecutive season (unless they do a injury buyout).  In 2019, he broke his collarbone very early in the season, 2020 he sat out due to COVID, and now has a bad hamstring that he hurt in a joint practice with the Jets.
  • Ypsi 5 star and former MSU commit Emoni Bates has picked Memphis over MSU.   This move has now taken Michigan off the #1 2021 class ranking to #2 behind "walking in" Memphis.
  • ESPN has taken Rachel Nichols off NBA coverage and cancelled her show "The Jump", after her comments on Maria Taylor and ESPN's bad diversity practices were made public.
  • Remember Malik McDowell who picked MSU over Michigan because it would be much easier for him to attend MSU?  His mother didn't agree and wouldn't sign his LOI.  He ended up going to EL playing well (with concerns on taking plays off and lack of technique) and got drafted by Seahawks.  Prior to arriving in Seattle got injured in a ATV accident and never made it to the NFL.  In 2017 he was arrested for a DUI and in 2018 was arrested again for disorderly conduct.   So when the Browns signed him this off season, many questioned if he was worth it.  This pre-season he has been outstanding and has a great shot of making the team and re-starting his NFL career.
  • Michigan is looking to flip 2022 UK CB commit Andre Stewart
  • Hunter was at Little League World Series!
