The Original Michigan Monday: An Early Look at Nebraska

Michigan is now ranked #9 in the AP and won't be sneaking up on anyone any longer this season.   Michigan just had a very nice road victory against a very strong defense in Wisconsin and now will hit the road again and travel to Lincoln to face a Cornhusker team that just played its best game against an bad Northwestern team.   The other thing to consider is that Rutgers gashed the Wolverine defense after they started running the option.  Nebraska lives off that play and Michigan will have its hands full on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

Nebraska has had an interesting ride so far this season.  Started off with a bad loss to Illinois, then beat up on Fordham and Buffalo, was competitive against Oklahoma and MSU but lost, and beat up on Northwestern on Saturday.

Pass for 266 yards per (40th)

Run for 237 yards per (14th)

Defense gives up 322 yards per and 15.5 points per

Michigan is -5 right now

Another challenge for Mike Macdonald who probably has never designed a defense to stop an option QB.  This could be a big week for Jimmy's staff who is not allowed to coach on the field but probably knows how to stop the option.  ***Mike did coach at Georgia, so maybe he has more experience then I originally thought.   At that time, GA Tech was running nothing but option and they play that rivalry game every year.

  • I don't know if this is a stat or not?  But Michigan must be #1 in the nation on 3rd and 6 and gaining 5 yards.  How does this happen every drive?
  • This happened on Friday, Nolan Rumler is heading to the transfer portal.  Nolan was a 4 star OL from Akron, Ohio that we had high hopes for.  WOTS is that he is a very strong run blocker but struggling with pass pro.  Which makes sense as he was getting passed by younger guys with less experience.   I hate to lose guys with talent but this is probably the correct decision for Nolan.  I wish him nothing but success at his next program.  With his COVID year, he should have many years to play at his next stop.
  • The Big Ten has 5 teams in the AP Top 11.  Iowa 3, PSU 4, OSU 7, Michigan 9 and MSU 11.  Penn State is @ Iowa this weekend, the weird 4:00 kick.

Now the fun (nerve-wracking) part of the season begins. Neb is a bipolar team, and hoping for depressed team to show up. Then basically a bunch of body blow opponents.

We are playing as well as we have in years, and I’m excited/nervous. But at least feel engaged by watching this team. Past 10 years I’ve at times just wanted to tune out.

Wait, wait, wait...you say they are fun to watch again, you much think they will will the NC. You are crazy....just kidding.

I agree, this team is engaging and palatable to watch. So many teams in last 10 years I have not even wanted to watch as it was too painful.

Neb does concern me. Home game and they played OK tough and hammered NW.

I hope Jimmy/Gattis watched the Bucks game and saw some of the creative ways the Bucks got Fournette the ball.

I'm not the least bit worried about Nebraska. They have an inaccurate QB who doesn't have a strong arm. Plus they don't have elite level WR's which is what's needed to beat this year's Michigan Defense. So, I can definitely see a blowout coming. Illinois ran it down Nebraska's throat. Michigan will dominate.

Guys, Nebraska is much improved team. Michigan will have their hands full...they should win this game by at least 10 pts....don't be surprised if we come out flat and end up losing the game...scary...

If buck-nutsack-boy didn't talk with circular logic he wouldn't talk at all. We should win by 10, but don't be surprised if we lose?!? Gamblers love douchebags like this.
